Full Plot Details

It's 1901. At 19, tough, stubborn Christopher Leiningen came to South America and built levees to claim thousands of acres of Rio Negro river land for a chocolate plantation. Now 34, with no knowledge of women, he recruits a mail-order bride in New Orleans. She's beautiful, independent, and arrives ready to be his stalwart helpmate; however, no one has told him she's a widow. He rejects her. During the next week, as she awaits the boat to take her back to the US, they learn that legions of army ants will strike in a few days' time. She joins the fight to save the plantation; their courage and his probable loss of all he's worked for may crack his resolve to send her away.

I am an expert on Charlton Heston flicks and this is in my top 3. I am sure I will be reviewing more in the future.

The plot goes as follows: Chuck (a man who clearly doesnt want a mail order bride) orders a mail order bride, Parker (a woman who clearly doesnt want to be a mail order bride). They argue for ages until a swarm of killer ants bring them together. Ace!

But when the owner turns out to be an exacting and arrogant jerk, she finds she may be in over her head. As something sinister approaches through the jungle, she must try to win over her new husband, or call it quits and head back home. With echoes of Beauty and the Beast, as well as some nineteenth century potboilers, the movie is really made by the performances. And darn if I don't completely identify with Heston's character. If only I had the money and power to back it up. HestFactor 9.
User Review - 8/10 by Steve GShockingly effective! As inane & incredulous as the plot sounds at first, it's pulled off really well. Hard to believe, I know. The dynamic between Heston & Parker is always intriguing. The threat of 'marabunta' (aka Killer Ants) is genuinely suspenseful, & the effects are fairly well done. A suprising achievement.
