Movie Reviews

Consequence - 8/10 by Jenn AdamsWith a spooky atmosphere, retro feel, and a creepy performance from a horror legend, The Mortuary Collection is a perfect movie for stormy nights at home and best enjoyed over a big bowl of buttery popcorn.
Austin Chronicle - 8/10 by Richard WhittakerMost anthologies have the framing mechanism simply service the stories they contain: Instead, Spindell weaves each tale into the bigger fabric, like bloody fat quarters making up a gruesome but surprisingly snugly quilt. When the pieces all are sewn together, the fully assembled The Mortuary Collection may well be the most wickedly fun anthology since Trick'r Treat.
Film Threat - 8/10 by Lorry KiktaIt’s a pastiche of all the good anthologies we had back in the day, such as Tales From The Crypt, Creep Show, and more. It’s a perfect Halloween watch.
Slashfilm - 7/10 by Chris EvangelistaAs haphazard and messy as The Mortuary Collection is, its bloody, ripped-out heart is in the right place.
The A.V. Club - 7/10 by Katie RifeThe Mortuary Collection recalls everything from Hammer Horror to Sam Raimi at various points throughout the film. It’s less successful at actually transcending those influences, although Spindell’s devotion is endearing.
RogerEbert.com - 6/10 by Roxana HadadiThoroughly grisly and mostly entertaining, “The Mortuary Collection” is a satisfying choice for the spooky season.
Movie Nation - 5/10 by Roger MooreThe thing looks just beautiful, and having the wonderful character actor Clancy Brown as a creepy old mortician “telling” the tales lends it gravitas and ups its cool quotient. But the stories from Spindell, heretofore a maker of short films (including an earlier version of a “story” told here), are wildly uneven in tension, suspense and horror.

User Review - 10/10 by RachelhaiinraHonestly best horror anthology in a long while. Everything was amazing loved this movie 10/10 would recommend.
User Review - 8/10 by Lambo442This is a solid horror film with fantastic set design, brilliant cinematography, solid acting and a genuinely creepy feel to it. Each of the stories is unique and disturbing in its own right. Unfortunately the ending is sloppy and rushed and much about it makes no sense. Its supposed to end where is began, as we see the small paper boy talking to the new Mortuary keeper, but in the beginning he actually ran away from the house. It doesn't explain what he's actually doing inside there now. So much of it just seems sloppy and rushed. It leaves you puzzled as to why this new person is supposed to make such a valid new candidate for a keeper. All of her stories are similar after all. She kills kids and eats them. Was Montgomery a murderer himself? Is that how he ended up there? How were the burnt children able to climb out of the books and eat her? Why was there a horror film playing that was mirroring the events actually hapenning? Just a cute little gimmick? And young attractive women don't tend to be cannabilistic serial killers. It's like the Director tacked it all on and hoped for the best. It probably all makes sense and someone could explain it to me, but if I'm left confused that's just jarring. It certainly isn't obvious. Still, I loved this film.
