Alexander On Film - 8/10 by Chris Alexander"There's so much to adore about The Monster Club..."
User Review - 10/10 by Jason TAfter helping out a starving vampire, a horror author is repaid by being taken to 'The Monster Club' and told stories of three different types of monsters. I have a real soft spot for this movie - it is the highest form of camp horror done perfectly. The three stories are all entertaining in different ways and are a good mix of sad, funny and horrific, with my favourite being the hilarious second entry starring Donald Pleasence. The framing sequences in 'The Monster Club' itself are all very silly and amusing with a mix of comedy, people in rubber masks and several musical numbers. The cast is a great mix of horror stalwarts and other famous faces from the time who all play their roles to the max, with a special mention going to the legendary Vincent Price (and one of the only times he has played a vampire methinks). I remember seeing this movie way back in the day and it really appealed to my love of camp horror, and it a film that I can happily watch again and again. But, in the scheme of things, it really hasn't stood up to the test of time, and one thinks that it isn't going to appeal to the modern horror fan. But, I will always urge people to check it out if they haven't seen it and enjoy this great movie that shows why the British have always been the best at making horror anthology films.
User Review - 10/10 by Bill BThe movie is awesome but I was under the impression it was a comedy because it started out so hammy I had to giggle, but then the first story came on and I felt kinda like crying and while looking for something to be sorta comic relief in it, I realized some of the imagery is really creepy. It's awesome though
User Review - 8/10 by Jon Cgoofy and very corny but has a strange likeness to it Vincent Price is a vampire who bites a bystander but instead of killing him or turning him he invites him to a private shindig filled with supernatural beings from skeletons to werewolves to ghouls this vampire lays out the history of these creatures that exist in our world the main crux of the film involves him telling 3 stories of terror; the first about a lonely rich man with a devastating whistle the second involving a vampire hiding from several hunters, and the third involving sketchy village residents even Donald Pleasance makes an appearance in one these tales this anthology film again follows the lines of 'Tales from the Crypt' and 'Creepshow' and it's filled with everything 1980's from the cheesy acting to the rockin tunes I also find it interesting that Price drops a line near the end of the film that even though this nightclub is filled with creatures that are beyond the norm who says humans cant be monsters as well considering their entire history of unspeakable acts of horror, so in a way all are created equal according to Price's character low-budget but still a small treasure
User Review - 8/10 by Dougal SThe Monster Club is a film which is like a cross between Creep Show and a Horror version of Top of the Pops and falls into the category itâ(TM)s so bad its actually bloody good. Basically Vincent Price a great actor (Must of been on the bones of his arse doing this though) plays an old vampire looking for Blood one night and bites into a Horror Author, when Price realises he has bitten into a great Horror Author he decides to help him out by introducing him to The Monster Club for material for his next book. The Monster Club is basically a night club for monsters (well thatâ(TM)s what it probably said in the script) what we get instead is some extras dressed up in appauling cheap Halloween Costumes, even in 1980 this looks utter crap. We are treated to some dodgy songs from acts I have never heard of but have to admit some of the songs are catchy if not cringey. With titles like Am A Sucker for Your Love you get the picture. Anyway thankfully it gets better as Price tells the Author some Horror tales that cut to nice little short story segments, the first story is quite good and deals with a lonely old Ghoul who lives in a mansion who has a terrifying whistle that can melt you! Yes really!, The second story is abit slapstick including three vampire hunters that is played out for laughs including some dodgy acting from Britt Eckland and Donald Pleasance and the final story is my favourite when a film producer looking for a location for his next horror film comes across a creepy village of cannibals with some terrifying dodgy synthesizer music. The film has its faults and in some ways can be looked on as an experiment that did not really work because I have never seen another Horror Pop Film. I really do like this film though because it different, fun and unintenally a bit of a laugh and Vincent Price brings a sort of credibility to it. The songs are catchy to, Monsters RULE OK! Ha.
User Review - 8/10 by Aj VA very fun movie, glad I got to see this for Halloween this last year. Price plays a vampire and tells us four horror stories about monsters. Plus, there's some bands playing good music too. The stories are cool and scary. I really liked this movie, and I highly recommend it.
User Review - 8/10 by Lisa SThis is a really fun movie, perfect for watching on Halloween too. It's one of those movies that's got three or four different stories which are told, in this movie, by Vincent Price, who plays a vampire. Plus, there's some really cool Halloween music from a couple of bands that perform in the movie as well. And, I loved the ending!
User Review - 8/10 by Bill TWelcome to the Monster Club! Well I can never have a bad word to say about Vincent Price, here he is in top form as usual. It's an anthology flick which is both extremely camp and also quite creepy!
User Review - 6/10 by Ugly Twelcome to monster club ! Pretty Things and other new wave/punksters they performed weird musics. The 3 segments are decent (like that one with D.Pleasence) and yes, a Vampire has to deliver an ironic 'j'accuse' to the human race. ahhh poor good old monsters...
User Review - 6/10 by Bryant DCampy at times. Scary at times. This film never really becomes "good", but it's funny to watch Vincent Price and to see old people dancing in what essentially is a shitty version of the "Star Wars cantina".
