Suite101.com - 8/10 by Rob HumanickRaw greatness that refuses to be contained by mediocre skin.
User Review - 10/10 by Michi MYou just don't know what movies are until you've seen one likre this
User Review - 8/10 by Erik GOne of the dumbest titles of all time. However, the movie itself is quite good. Very much like an Ulmer film, all shadows, cheapness, and doom.
User Review - 8/10 by Justin HI have never seen so many white people in Japan. Seriously, every main character that isn't a villain or a villain's accomplice is an occidental in this thing--and it only gets more ridiculous from there. The evil scientist has literally no solid motivation behind his experiments, the main character is essentially just an overblown caricature of all the stereotypes associated with men of the '50s, all backstory is told in huge lumps of exposition...there's very little that "The Manster" does right, and that is precisely what makes it so gloriously fun. In fact, the only reason I can think of that this hadn't been featured on MST3K is that it drags in a few places--most notably toward the end. When there's a homicidal mutant with goofy prosthetics being chased around by the cops, I shouldn't be sitting here, listening to poorly-executed melodrama! Despite the occasional stumbling block though, this is one hell of a good film to make fun of. And that's the only reason I've rated it so highly. But if you're looking for something that can stand on its own merits, then what are you doing, looking at a movie called "The Manster" in the first place?
User Review - 8/10 by Glenn Bwhile extremely cheesy in some parts, this is actually a really good original b-movie. i now can see where army of darkness got the concept for ash's splitting into two people. also worth noting is the completely hilarious parts where larry has a tantrum and blows off everyone and when he gets drunk. all in all, this is definitely worth seeking out.
User Review - 8/10 by FilmGrinder S79% "I gotta get it out of me!"-Larry Stanford (Peter Dyneley) Dr. Jykell and Mr. Head. Sam Raimi seemed to have liked it.
User Review - 6/10 by Wes Sever watch army of darkness and think to yourself, "man, that part where ash splits in two is awesome! i wish they made a whole movie out of just that part!" well, 30-something years earlier they did and she was called 'the manster'. basically, some dude is tricked into drinking some chemicals by a scientist and it makes him act strangely...and eventually grow an eye in his shoulder...and then a second head....and he splits in two. it's an alright film...good for a few cheesy laughs, but it's nothing too special.
User Review - 6/10 by Brian BEven with its unfortunate title, the movie is worth watching. Of course it is heavy on Sci-Fi schlock, but it is an effective creature feature. Better than a lot of its contemporaries.
User Review - 6/10 by dan bFans of Army Of Darkness should check this 50's gem out, so should everybody else as it's a pretty good almost forgotten monster movie.
User Review - 6/10 by Jessica H"Are you asking me not to shoot to kill?" A surprisingly enjoyable monster mash regarding a Japanese mad scientist, his mutant wife, his ape man brother, and the transforming womanizing reporter at the center of his latest experiment. The Manster is basically a cheaper variation of The Wolf Man, but it's pure comic gold--just imagine Craig T Robot & Co of Mystery Science Theater 3000 riffing one great line after the other and you will make it through with a pleasant smile on yer face.
