Leave your thoughts about The Man from Snowy River.
Miami HeraldBill CosfordA fine directorial debut from George Miller.
The GuardianLuke BuckmasterMore than just an Aussie horse opera, this film employs stunning scenery, technical flair and Kirk Douglas in two roles in its pursuit of an uplifting conclusion.
Urban CinefileAndrew L. UrbanThe combination of its elements touches the Australian heart, elevating the ethos of a big, wonderful land and its hard headed, big hearted people on the screen
Christian Science MonitorDavid SterrittTo appreciate it fully, however, one must have a completely uncritical fondness for Kirk Douglas as he acts his heart out in two roles; for picturesque landscapes; for silly plots, and for dialogue that leans heavily on aphorisms too homespun to be repeated in a big-city newspaper.
Associated PressBob ThomasThe Man from Snowy River is worth a small "yippee!" It's a real honest-to-goodness western, the likes of which haven't been seen in these parts for a long spell.
Chicago Sun-TimesRoger EbertIt's corny in places, and kind of dumb, and its subplot about the romance between the boy and the girl seems plundered from some long-shelved Roddy McDowell script. But The Man from Snowy River has good qualities, too, including some great aerial photography of thundering herds of horses, and the invigorating grandeur of the Australian landscape.

User ReviewDarrell HOne of my all-time fave dramas. The good guys are good and the bad guys are bad, the horses and the women are beautiful. And there's no kissing til the end. Kirk Douglas is excellent as two brothers. Probably the perfect family film.
User ReviewBen RI guess this film is under-rated in some ways. For me there is great beauty in the simplicity of the plot. It is wonderful how the story is woven around Banjo's classic poem, with all the sub-plots tying together very neatly- the family secrets in the Harrison household, a young man trying to make it in a solitary man's world, a strong willed young woman breaking free of the control of a domineering father. The cinematography was ahead of it's time, the music very original, beautiful and evocative. Generally I feel that the film really captures the era well with great attention to detail. Might also note the real honour that it was to have such a great film actor as Kirk Douglas feature in the film. I love how he plays both the role of Harrison and Spur, and is both objectionable and likable with each change of costume. He does such a great job playing both characters that you would not know they were the same person. He had an excellent on-screen presence.
