User ReviewJustin Wbad acting? check. lame monster? check. bad acting by the lame monster? check. sounds like a hoot! this film practically begs you to make fun of it as you watch....and it's a blast to do so. it may lack in all of the 'fundamentals' of a good movie, but it's got plenty of entertainment...and really, that's what counts.
User ReviewBrian SI've got a soft spot for old monster movies and I must admit, enjoyed this. Yes it's a blatant Frankenstein, Wolfman,Jekyll & Hyde rip off but it's not without it's charm and also some nice spooky atmosphere. Good performances too by the cast who play it all very straight.
User ReviewLowell DAwful movie on it's own, but a great MST3k episode. My favorite joke was during the gardener's first transformation into a werewolf: "Oh my God! They turned him into Abe Lincoln!"
User ReviewMichael SOne of those mad scientist movies combined with one of those wolfman movies. Not all that scary due to some pretty lackluster acting (especially on the part of the wolfman character)... but offers fuel of some fun heckling while watching...
User ReviewJared GOne of the dullest and dumbest werewolf movies I've ever seen. George Zucco is enjoyable (albeit over-the-top) but the rest of the film is poorly executed and performed.
User ReviewWayne HProduced by a poverty row studio in 1942, THE MAD MONSTER is just a failed atempt at cashing in on the WOLFMAN's success. PLOT (OR LACK OF ONE) A Mad scientist who has been discredited by his peers attempts to kill them off after he develops a secret formula that transforms his gardener into a murderous wolf man. honestly not that much in orginality with the story. ACTING & DIRECTION Dull and unintersting, nothing speical at all SFX Ok for a movie made on skid row , Werewolf make up a cheap rip off of the impressive WOLFMAN make up produce by the great Jack Perice. FINAL THOUGHTS ON THE MAD MONSTER (1942) Its safe to say its a bad movie but it tries to be something memroblie but sadly fails mirsibly. Best part of the film for me seeing the wolfman in a floopy gardners hat, come on thats so funny to look at amougst this dull rip off. 4/10
User ReviewWes SBoring film with cheap costumes and reused sets. There's nothing very interesting here and the plot is very simple.
User ReviewChristopher BWhile this is an interesting spin to both the mad scientist/wolfman genre, a poor script, cinematography, and uninspired direction makes this film bearable only to fans of B-movie horror flicks. The only inspired performance is from Mae Busch as the myth-spouting vagrant.
User ReviewRobert BA film made to capitalize on Universal's popular 30's-40's monster movie franchise: namely the Wolfman! This Hyde & Jeckell/ werewolf film actually has decent effects all things considered. the story is absurd but the film makers make attempts at some above average efx like the opening scene where the insane mad scientist is talking to a room full of imagenary scientists who have tormented him in the past.
