Sarasota Herald-Tribune - 9/10 by Christopher LloydThis touching and quirky Australian short is about the things that just don't fit. The imagination and animation, especially in the finale, are dazzling.
Cinema Autopsy - 8/10 by Thomas CaldwellThe Lost Thing has a beautiful melancholic charm that evokes the work of writer Neil Gaiman and filmmaker Tim Burton.
User Review - 10/10 by Stephen KSaw all the nominated shorts this year for the Oscars, and felt The Lost Thing was the clear front runner. I've never seen anything quit like this before, from a visual perspective, as well as from an emotionally perspective. Worth experiencing.
User Review - 10/10 by Mariam COk ahora este es mi favorito y de segundo the gruffalo. Muy creativo :D
User Review - 10/10 by Paul CWinner of the 2010 Oscar for Animated Short Film. Well-deserved.
User Review - 10/10 by David Ray GI just finished my BA-thesis written on Shaun Tan's "Tale From Outer Suburbia" and celebrated by giving his Oscar winning "The Lost Thing" a first viewing. Needless to say this excellently animated short film, based on the picture book by the same name, manges to fully feature the poetic philosophy, the social dichotomy and narrative complexity that often get reflected in Tan's work. This is an opus by a creative genius!
User Review - 10/10 by Louis RSaw this at friends birthday party at The Royale. What a great animated short with a charming story and awesome visual style from Shaun Tan.
User Review - 10/10 by Michael WA simple yet touching film about memories - the good kind, and how we neglect them by how useless they may seem, by how busy we have been doing some other things. It's really quite touching and I love the quirky animation. It's a beautiful piece about living with a real smile on your face.
User Review - 10/10 by Sara PI think a lot of people can relate to this film. Every once in a while, we feel like we don't belong. All we want is to feel belonged. Why not see this film?
User Review - 10/10 by Byron BThis was my favorite of the Oscar nominated animated shorts. Our narrator leads us through an urban Australian wasteland of sorts with busy people in their own worlds and signs all over barking orders. Our narrator is a teen who collects bottle caps. His life changes when he sees what could be a giant metal cookie jar with portals and hatches around it through which octopus like tentacles or crustacean like claws can protrude or retract. It is a strange mix of mechanics and flesh. It acts like a lost puppy. The teen can't call it anything but a "Lost Thing." Can he find a place for this lost thing? Very creative and dreamlike as we see what happens at the teen's home, at a bureaucratic office, and when they follow a mysterious sign. The CGI had a unique textured look that I thought was really delightful.
