User ReviewBjørnhild VThis film should be mandatory for everyone in Norway! Strong words but maybe I'm a little partial. Some may think this film should be more like Veiviseren (The pathfinder) but Kautokeino 1852 is based on actual history and not Sami myth. The story has many nuances that can be lost for non-Norwegians or Sami but behind there is a message for everyone about better understanding. Some aspects could be broadened but all in all this is a great movie based on a tragic moment in 1852. The last words that rolls over the screen stands as a reminder of this.
User ReviewEsa KThis movie really touched my heart....... I'm just...speechless.
User ReviewMarina NAn excellent, very beautifully made movie.
User ReviewKnut FA really good movie that gives you a glance into very real history, back to the year 1852, when it might have ment life or death, wheter you bend under forceful convert to christianity, or opposed, wanting to preserve your own culture. A touching movie that made me cry. So far the best movie of the ongoing year, which definitely earns a high spot in my all time favorites. Some have commented that the Sámi in the movie were naive - yes, maybe if they were of a modern culture, but this wasn't the case. I instantly loved the brave character that Anni-Kristiina played. It wasn't difficult at all to relate to the Sámi people, I can feel only great warmth towards them as I'm priviliged to personally know two Sámi. I would recommend this movie to everyone, to widen the views of life. Watch the movie, I dare you :)
User ReviewHanna MA movie you have to see!Long live the sami people!!!
User ReviewJan WA real awakener. An interesting and very good description of how religion corrupts - or how religious leaders easily becomes the tool of the rulers, but also how religion can turn peoples heads. This justifies the sami ancestors demand to get the two be-headed skulls back where they belong. It makes you understand... A must to see! And not only for Norwegians.
User ReviewJannik GWow, I never knew this happened. It really makes you angry to see how the state church suppresses the Sami people and they can't do that much about it. It's a very well made movie.
User ReviewJarkko SLaestadianism + Norwegian oppression = rebellion and bloodshed within the arctic circle. While Laestadius himself only makes a cameo appearance in this film, he does give the "alcohol is the Devil's piss" sermon! ;-)
User ReviewAudun HBegynte litt treigt, men blei spennande ittekvert! Anbefales
User ReviewOlli PYet another movie really well describing what emerges from injustice, greed and indifference. This is a historical movie based on the real story on corruptness of church in wilderness of northern Norway, Kautokeino, which makes this movie very special and rare in its kind with respect to the context. As, myself, being one who has been hiking around there many times, meeting the people and loving the nature and culture there, I felt this movie very near to my heart. Reminding me again how many good hearts have been and still are killed in this world. It is not big a money stuff in Hollywood style but where you need the money where the great effects and reality is there - just there where you shoot with your camera, the setting is still there...
