Movie Reviews

PopMatters - 9/10 by Cynthia FuchsThe focus of Hunger is emphatically the death of Bobby Sands, specifically, what happens to his body, viewed from a tragic outside and, to an imaginative extent, a determined inside.
eFilmCritic.com - 8/10 by Scott WeinbergHalf silly, half sexy. And mostly boring.
The Globe and Mail (Toronto) - 8/10 by Jay ScottThe Hunger [from the novel by Whitley Strieber] is all visual and aural flash, although this modern vampire story looks so great, as do its three principal performers, and is so bizarre that it possesses a certain perverse appeal.
Butaca Ancha - 8/10 by Rubén Martínez PintosA film with legendary cast and photograph. Underestimated at the time, but like any other cult movies, was able to find its audience. [Full review in Spanish]
Mania.com - 8/10 by Rob VauxVampire movies were always cool, but it took The Hunger to make them modern.
Variety - 8/10 by Variety StaffIn his feature debut, director Tony Scott, brother of Ridley, exhibits the same penchant for eleborate art direction, minimal, humorless dialog and shooting in smoky rooms.
Spirituality and Practice - 8/10 by Frederic and Mary Ann BrussatStyle over substance in this vampire drama.
New York Times - 7/10 by Vincent CanbyWhat makes The Hunger so much fun is its knowing stylishness, which Mr. Scott, who makes his theatrical film debut here, has brought to movies from a career in commercials and documentaries.
Newsweek - 6/10 by David AnsenThe Hunger is typically Tony Scott -- more style than substance, and perhaps simply an excuse to get Denueve and Susan Sarandon, Miriam's post-Bowie love, in bed together.
Austin Chronicle - 6/10 by Raoul HernandezMore style than substance, and perhaps simply an excuse to get Denueve and Susan Sarandon, Miriam's post-Bowie love, in bed together.
