Austrian designer Stefan Sagmeister is doing well. He lives in New York, the city of his dreams, and he has success in his work, designing album covers for the Rolling Stones, Jay-Z and the Talking Heads. But in the back of his mind he suspects there must be something more. He decides to turn himself into a design project. Can he redesign his personality to become a better person? Is it possible to train his mind to get happier? He pursues 3 controlled experiments of meditation, therapy, and drugs, grading himself along the way. But real life creeps in and confounds the process: art, sex, love, and death prove impossible to disentangle. His unique designs and painfully personal experiences mark a journey that travels closer to himself than ever intended.

The Film StageJohn FinkThe film simultaneously offers us too much information while lacking real heart.
User ReviewVinai UThis film is an absolute gem, and everyone wanting to live life through another's eyes (when they are actually their own) must experience this pleasure. The film clenched me to the edge of my seat, and I long to continue the ride Sagmeister, Nabors, and all set up at the carnival! A crafty and consciously human serving. I only hope my German architect is surviving his NYC internship...
User ReviewTherese RI won't soon forget this film. Thank you for putting so much of yourself into this project.I think designers will connect to it more than they realize. We're all searching for our own happy, but it's the connections that matter most. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * This one gets all the stars! :)
User ReviewRebecca Hleft such a lasting impression, beautiful both visually and emotionally... a real lesson about people, relationships and how we see ourselves and others.
User ReviewMownia MInspired by this film and the accompanying exhibition (The Happy Show). An intimate look at designer Stefan Sagmeister's life, and at times comedic and consoling exploration of meditation techniques, cognitive therapy and anti-depressants. As an artist, he makes this attempt completely open to the world -- a brave act to share the mistrials with us. I feel the audience can easily commiserate, as I have with his 7 year journey, through the traveling exhibition and now film. A must see for designers, artists, performance artists, comedians, easy hearts and pursuers of whatever helps you sleep better at night.
User ReviewPam LSurprisingly insightful movie. Creative way to explore the themes of happiness, love and loss. I thoroughly enjoy watching all of Stefan's efforts to live a more meaningful life - as a nurse working in the psychiatric field, this is a wonderful film that I will encourage clients to watch
User ReviewAlexa PFunny, sad, amazing, and creative. I am happy to watch this multiple times - from the girl in florence :)
User ReviewJonpaul%20 DA friend had recommended this documentary. I somehow knew right away it would be something special. I loved it. I can't stop thinking about it. I felt like at the end there was some uncertainty in what was made by Stefan but to me the final piece is much more interesting than what he originally had intended. The film has so many layers to it.. I still feel like my head is spinning.
User ReviewJoe GEven if you are not a graphic designer you can thoroughly enjoy this movie. The perfect balance between artistic and a good( real) story line.
User ReviewMarissa BA lovely, very honest conversation about design, love, relationships, and conflict. Won't end/progress the way you expect, and you won't even be mad about it.
