Exodus Decoded is a documentary created by Jewish Canadian filmmaker Simcha Jacobovici, in which new evidence in favor of the historicity of the Biblical Exodus is explored. It is partially narrated by film director James Cameron. Jacobovici suggests that the Exodus took place around 1500 BCE during the reign of pharaoh Ahmose I, and coincided with the eruption of Santorini that most scholars believe ended the Minoan civilization. Jacobovici suggests that the Exodus took place around 1500 BCE during the reign of pharaoh Ahmose I, and coincided with the eruption of Santorini that most scholars believe ended the Minoan civilization. In the documentary, the plagues that ravished Egypt in the Bible are explained as having resulted from that volcanic eruption, and a related collapse in the Nile river delta. While much of Jacobovici's archaeological evidence for the Exodus comes from Egypt, a surprising quantity comes from Mycenae, on mainland Greece.

| User ReviewMelinda OBest documentary to tackle the Exodus phenomenon of the enslaved Israelites during their escape from pharaoh Ahmose. Its extremely rewarding to view a believable account of the Biblical tale, from a skeptic's standpoint. For those of you who blindly believe what you've been force-fed by your religious figures, it's about time you emancipated yourself from organized religion. Here's your chance to learn about the Exodus story, completely free of religious dogma and Heston-like acting. You'll definitely appreciate the segment detailing the 'plagues', especially since scientific explanations are used. This is incredibly educational with spectacular CGI effects to effectively retain your attention. Simcha Jacobovici and James Cameron make excellent documentaries together - well worth seeing their other co-authored films. |

| User Reviewdanny dincredibly interesting film with some decent theories, but the filmmakers werent honest enough about where the theories were differentiated from the facts. they also made a few assumptions about certain pieces of information which have turned out to be incorrect, despite the fact that there was already solid research in some of the areas they covered at the time the film was made that could have informed their theories a little better. quite a few flaws, but still interesting, well made, and fun to watch. |
| User ReviewDenise HThe special effects were nicely done but the scientific work necessary to accurately document these "theories" was completely lacking from this production. And I noticed a distinct "slant" against the Egyptian government and for the Christian religion. I'm not denying that the events in the Bible regarding the Exodus occurred, but I didn't see proof positive that these events were "miracles" produced by an all powerful deity. Rather I saw catastrophic events that occur in nature all the time...earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, poisoned water, disease caused by poisoned or corrupted water, etc. Believing that a specific entity deliberately caused each occurrence in order to get a group of people released from slavery in Egypt is like saying that Katrina was God's way of trying to get New Orleans residents' attention. It was caused by natural occurrences--hurricane winds and broken earthen dams. A better movie is "Rameses: Wrath of God or Man?" At least in that show we see real forensic work, not some goofy guy wandering around the Cairo Museum and rifling among artifacts there like he knows what he's doing! |
