In eighteenth dynasty Egypt, Sinuhe (Edmund Purdom), a poor orphan, becomes a brilliant physician and with his friend Horemheb (Victor Mature) is appointed to the service of the new Pharoah (Michael Wilding). Sinuhe's personal triumphs and tragedies are played against the larger canvas of the turbulent events of the eighteenth dynasty. As Sinuhe is drawn into court intrigues, and bizarre secrets are revealed to him, he learns the answers to the questions he has sought since his birth. Short on historical accuracy, but strong on plot and characterization.

EmanuelLevy.ComEmanuel LevyLavishly produced by Zanuck, this big-budget historical epic is preposterously plotted and acted, though Shamroy's color cinematography is good.
Ozus' World Movie ReviewsDennis SchwartzOverlong, risible and plodding historical blockbuster.

User ReviewOrlok WOne of my favorite old school movies with one of my favorite quotes of all time: I, Sinuhe the Egyptian, write this. In my place of exile on the shores of the Red Sea. There is no more desolate spot on earth. Soon the jackals and the vultures will make a poor meal of what is left of me. No monument will mark my resting place. I will leave only this, the story of my life. I have lived fully and deeply. I have tasted passion, crime and even murder. It is for you to judge me. You must weigh the good against the evil, the passion against the tenderness, the crime against the charity, the pleasure against the pain. For I began life as I am ending it, alone.
User ReviewOmer NI love it so much and wonder if its events occurred really one day so amazing and was so happy to watch it. I advice you to watch it.
User ReviewGregory WI love this film. So many relevant, timeless elements in the story.
User ReviewGoran KA movie by one of the greatest directors of all time; Michael Curtiz. Just check out his resume (among the best are Captian Blood, Robin Hood,Angels with dirty faces and Casablanca to name a few) This is also one of his unsung greats and a brilliant epic. Ustinov is great in this movie. So is Gene Tierney, cold and haunting as ever. Bella Darvi plays a cruel role to perfection as she toys with the lead character Sinhue played by a sympathetic Edmund Purdom. Victor Mature also stands out. The movie has a massive plot worthy of a place next to the great hollywood epics and is historically based. All the twists come to head in a classic Mexican stand off poisoning scene that just needs to be witnessed. I urge you to see this movie. Thanks
User ReviewPatty MQuite good and like the story about Horemhab.
User ReviewPrivate UThis is another yummy sword-and-sandals movie, if that's your pleasure, that takes you back to the time of King Tut's dad even!
User ReviewErik WSaw this movie on Laser Disc because that's the only available way to view this movie in it's original widescreen format, which is the best way to enjoy the Oscar nominated cinematography by Leon Shamroy. The acting is pretty good even though this movie doesn't have the star power that other epics of the time had. I think this movie was under rated becaues there is a lot to enjoy in this. The set designs and costumes were great and the music score composed by the legendary composers Alfred Newman and Bernard Herrmann all outstanding. I only hope this comes to DVD soon.
