Movie Metropolis - 3/10 by John J. PuccioNot only is the sequel a virtual repeat of the original, Marvin and Borgnine by this time were getting much too old for their roles.
User Review - 8/10 by Jason PYes, it may be a rehash of the first film, but this one is just as good. Although shorter, it jumps right into the story and keeps plugging away to the end. I was disappointed to see Sonny Landham die off very close to the end after exhibiting the tough guy qualities more than anyone else in the Dirty Dozen. Still not a bad watch, and surprised that this was a made-for-tv film (which is why its in full screen, sad day).

And did Lee Marvin age by 20 years in the three months between the events of this movie and the original? Essentially, this is the first movie all over again, but cut for time since it was made for TV. It wouldn't be worth watching if not for the fact that it comes free on the DVD for the original "Dirty Dozen."

User Review - 4/10 by David GFor what it is, The Dirty Dozen: Next Mission isn't terrible but it is a completely unnecessary made-for-TV sequel to the 60's original. It's little more than a rehash of the first film really with many of the scenes and a lot of the dialogue lifted shamelessly from the '67 classic. Check out the scene where Lee Marvin (who returns as Major Reisman) receives his orders from another returnee Ernest Borgnine, or when two soldiers stop a third from escaping - almost exact duplicates of their original counterparts. Still, cheap and cheerful rehash or not, it looks pretty good for a TV movie and there are several familiar faces in the cast. Aside from Marvin, Borgnine and Richard Jaeckel who reprise their roles from the original (and don't seem quite as bored as you'd expect them to be) there's Sonny Landham, Wolf Kahler, Ricco Ross and one or two others whom you may recognise.

By repeat, I REALLY MEAN repeat, especially for the first 30 minutes. One black guy. One guy who says only a general can pardon him. One crazy rapist/murderer. One guy who attacks Lee Marvin as he is walking out of his cell. One guy that gets shot in action for treachery. The list goes on. In all honesty, this movie isn't even really worth it. If you like The Dirty Dozen, just stick to the original.

User Review - 2/10 by Justin SFalls into all the pitfalls, traps and land mines of "Made for TV" movies, with all the film shot to fit . . . the allotted broadcast airtime for it. Suffer from obvious lack of budget, cheesy on the cheap special effects, and over the top melodramatic dialog. Furthermore, whoever their military adviser was completely failed, if they even had one. Starts out at the courts-martial scene in the beginning: no such thing as secret ballot on a courts-martial panel and citing conviction of crimes specified within various punitive articles in the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice). The UCMJ didn't even exist until 31 May 1951 when it replaced the Articles of War that had been used since 1775, the last version of which had been enacted by Congress in 1920. During WWII, the trials, convictions and sentences would have been under the Articles of War. In addition, officer insignia is incorrectly positioned on their Class A uniforms, albeit someone was savvy enough to not have generals wearing branch insignia (a common uniform error). Watch the original theatrical film, not this "Made for TV" (and TV ratings sweeps) tripe. It's much, much, much better.
