Ozus' World Movie ReviewsDennis SchwartzJoan Crawford gives a solid performance as the gangster's moll who discovers when it's too late that she took the wrong path.
Slant MagazineJeremiah KippLike the star in question, this diva showcase knows what it is and what it's good at.
User Reviewclaire xAn absolute feast for Crawford fans! She manages to run through so many of her famous reincarnations in one movie! The put-upon housewife, determined shopgirl and finally a glamorous society dame - they're all here! The only let-down is Davis Brian, who comes across as far too aggressive and OTT even for this particular nasty part. Still a cracker, though.
User ReviewRicky Canother favourite Joan movie. She gets smacked up at the end in quite a traumatic scene
User ReviewCherry PJoan we love you!!! As you say: - you gotta kick and fight and belt your way up because nobody is gonna give you a lift, cause nobody cares about us except ourselves.
User ReviewPera KCrawford's most underrated movie... Rags to riches and back... a real classic film noir with tons of quotable lines
User ReviewPrivate ULoved Joan in this one. A pretty solid movie overall, I thought.
User ReviewPaul ZNot one moment of this film bored me. I hated Joan Crawford's conniving character, but I still rooted for her, as I am wont to do when Joanie's onscreen looking fabulous and being mean. However, I wanted more scenes with the head gangster's wife. What was that lady up to? I want to believe she had a secret past that was analogous to Joan's, and I want to know all about it. Unfortunately, the film focused more on the men in Joan's torrid life, and some of those men ended up being kind of repetitive. On the upside, there are fur coats and plenty of slapping. None by Joan this time, though.
User ReviewJt AIntriguing Joan Crawford flick about a low-class woman rising to wealth by way of wits, and looks regardless of the cost. Face paced thriller where there's never a dull moment.
User ReviewScott SIt's kind of like Mildred Pierce meets The Public Enemy. I love all of Joan's snappy, tough lines.
