Movie Reviews

Sarasota Herald-Tribune - 8/10 by Christopher LloydBecause he was largely a journeyman filmmaker who took whatever jobs the studio assigned him, most historians and critics regard Michael Curtiz merely as a capable gun-for-hire who was lucky enough to find himself attached to good projects.
EmanuelLevy.Com - 8/10 by Emanuel LevyWayne is decent, but this is a compromised Western due to the fact that ailing director Michael Curtiz (it's his last film) has no appreciation for the genre.
Dispatch-Tribune Newspapers - 8/10 by Steve CrumInteresting, at times brutal, John Wayne western with strong cast and locale.
The New York Times - 7/10 by Bosley CrowtherSo studiously wild and woolly it turns out to be good fun.
Scene-Stealers.com - 6/10 by Eric MelinCharming and agreeable, it moves along at a good clip. Shot in widescreen saturated CinemaScope, ... it's entertaining in a predictable way.
Laramie Movie Scope - 6/10 by Robert RotenA good old school western with solid acting, a great musical score, wonderful cinematography and beautiful desert scenery.
Chicago Reader - 5/10 by J.R. JonesMichael Curtiz may be the most hotly disputed director of Hollywood's golden age; his filmography includes such classics as Casablanca, Mildred Pierce, Yankee Doodle Dandy, and The Adventures of Robin Hood, but also a numbing succession of undistinguished contract pictures.

User Review - 10/10 by Jonathan DMonday March 22, 2010 (1961) The Comancheros WESTERN/ ACTION Out of all the John Wayne's 'shoot em up' westerns is concerned, this one is probably one of my favorite's in terms of action is concerned. Besides being the most action oriented John Wayne had ever done, this film also marks as Michael Curtiz final film of "Casablanca" fame!!! Simplistic storyline has John Wayne as sheriff finding and tracking down "Wanted" Paul Regret for shooting the judges son on a fair challenge, while travelling with him he then builds a rapport with him after saving his life before being asked to aide and help an illegal gun trade operation with some comancheroes . Favorite film of all time since the reason for it's storyline was to adapt to John Waynes real life views as a straight up hard nosed sheriff. Brightly photographed locations as well as well staged action sequences. Lee Marvin also has a small part in this film too as a scalphunter trader. This film gets a 4/4
