Combustible Celluloid - 8/10 by Jeffrey M. AndersonEven something this ridiculous has its inventive charms, not least of which are the wonderfully chintzy invisibility effects.
User Review - 8/10 by Michael H"Detour" director Edgar G. Ulmer's science-fiction, crime thriller "The Amazing Transparent Man" sounds like utter hokum with its melodramatic title. Predictably, most critics and viewers have displayed nothing but contempt for this modest endeavor. Nevertheless, this low-budget but entertaining epic about an unscuplous former military officer who blackmails a brilliant foreign scientist and a notorious safecracker so that he can create an invisible army to do his bidding qualifies as above-average. Edgar G. Ulmer spent his entire life helming low-budget features, but these low-budgets didn't mitigate his efforts. A strong cast headed by B-movie veteran Douglas Kennedy, Marguerite Chapman, and the ubiquitous James Griffith, solid scripting by "Yank in Vietnam" Jack Lewis, and solid production values make this speculative saga worth watching despite its lackluster title. No, this isn't the special effects extravaganza like "The Amazing Colossal Man" and the science fiction aspect isn't overblown like the aforementioned title. Basically, a European scientist has developed a process whereby a man can be made invisible and the former military man wants to use it to create an army that will enable him to conquer the world. Indeed, this is an outlandish, far-fetched film, but at 57-minutes, Ulmer keeps it clicking with several twists and surprises. This is one of those films where the research occurs and then the complications set in when the man chosen to do the villain's bidding turns against him. "The Amazing Transparent Man" is essentially a laboratory experiment gone awry with an explosive finale.
User Review - 6/10 by RayNormanBateman .A scientist Discovers an Experiment to make people invisible,he plans to make an army of Invisible Zombies to take over the world, his first Invisible Patient however plans to double cross him,A Fun cheapie from 1960 which has some good special effects for its time,it has some sort of inventive charm about it despite its daft plot.
User Review - 6/10 by Benedetta VEven if maybe is less perfect and surprising than "Detour", this movie is very interesting because of the screenplay wich hides a lot of breaks that leads into different fields like cold war's fear of the bomb, apocalyptic visions, the destiny of a scientist who worked for the Nazi regime during the Second World War. I loved the way the movie starts: without explanations, straight into the story. It reminds me of another movie, "Kiss me deadly" by Robert Aldrich.

User Review - 6/10 by Allan CEdgar G. Ulmer directed this entertaining rather gonzo sci-fi film about a mad scientist who develops an invisibility formula and plans to build an invisible army to take over the world. This film is one of Ulmer's last films and is rather disappointing compared to his best films, but it's still worth checking out if you're in the mood for a goofy 50s/60s Saturday Morning serial sort of goofy fun. Just don't expect "The Black Cat" or "Detour."
User Review - 6/10 by Cita WThe plot synopsis paints a different picture than the movie I saw. The characters are deeper than just a "mad scientist" wanting to create an army of invisible zombies. Pretty decent sci-fi morality play.
User Review - 6/10 by Daniel QA black and white, sci-fi, anti-war, bank heist movie! I have to say that I really enjoyed this little movie. I thought the acting was Ok, and minus a few nonsensical moments the story was pretty engrossing. It plays more like a two part TV episode then an actual film. The science fiction of it is cool, and the effects are fun, impressive, and creative. Overall, Give this a shot if your an old sci-fi film buff. If not then you probably want to stay away from this one.

User Review - 4/10 by Kevin M. WThe threat? What evil advantage will an invisible person perpetuate? The problem (at least for director Edgar G. Ulmer)? How to portray that threat w/o any production money. Well, he can't. He intimates, but that's as far as he can go. The result is a so-so effort that never really goes anywhere. Oh, it threatens to go ... but it doesn't. Eh.
