Filmcritic.comChristopher Nulltiresome before its first half hour is up
Chicago Sun-TimesRoger EbertThe movie, in fact, isn't as much fun as a night at a disco, because the editing is so nervous that we never get one sustained musical number that's allowed to build to a satisfying climax.
Video-Reviewmaster.comSteve CrumForgettable '70s musical fluff, over produced, not that listenable.
User ReviewPrivate UI'm beginning the rather lengthy task of entering into the database every film I have seen, at least those I have a decent memory of. Some may have the briefest of reviews while many will just have a number. Those films that I consider personal favorites and/or those that have some historical signficance I will add later when I have time for more lengthy reviews. Day of the Dolphin, directed by Mike Nichols, is a political thriller starring George C. Scott as a researcher studying dolphin intelligence. Right wing groups think they can train the dolphins to blow up the president's yacht. Not meant to be amusing but it is! Ice Castles, directed by Donald Wrye, is a sappy romantic drama about a blind ice skater. Thank God It's Friday, directed by Robert Klane, is a film about a dance contest at a popular disco. It's not a particularly good film (Saturday Night Fever is much better) but it's somewhat enertaining if viewed as a "period piece" of the disco era. Stars Donna Summer, Terri Nunn, Jeff Goldblum, Debra Winger, the Commodores, and Chick Vennerra. About five years ago I bought a box of about 50 videos at a garage sale for $5. Stanley was one in the box! It's a film about about a Vietnam vet who raises snakes to kill people who try to hurt him. It's so bad it's almost funny. Almost.
User Reviewmike hBest disco movie ever made, a rare gem, its got so much going on. Has one of the funniest best dance scenes on a bunch of cars I have ever seen. Great cast of characters, and sum big names, not just in music but in the acting world. Look for a young Debra Winger, and Jeff Goldblum, Donna Summer, the commodores. This movie just a lot of fun to watch you can watch it over and over. Sum people just don't like simple fun movies, and need complex bullshit too feel good with way too much drama sum times. Its nice to have just a cool fun movie, set to disco music that doesn't suck balls or is so badly done its pure cheese.
User ReviewMario MOne of my favorite movies of its kind . Love donna summer !!
User ReviewSarah MOk so some people don't get it. 1978 disco was fun and most people weren't really cognizant when they were in them at the time. Awesome music ... And young actors who were about to break. And nothing serious.... If you went to a disco you probably knew a "leatherman" or some other freak! Sometimes a movie is just supposed to be entertaining... Love it!
User ReviewDayna N"Thank God It's Friday" has the best disco soundtrack ever.. Much better than Saturday Night Fever. You have After Dark by Patti Brooks, Romeo and Juliet" Performed by Alec R. Costandinos, I'm Here again by Thelma Houston, not to mention Last dance by Donna Summer, just to name a few. The story is minimal but cute..but if you were around in the disco era and went to discos this movie will take you back and make you smile .This is another movie I can watch over and over and it only becomes more endearing. A must for disco fans or people that are curious about the late 70's early 80's club culture.
User ReviewCol A"Hey put a smile on your face!" Graced with some of the best cinematic disco tunes of '78. Patti Brookes' "After Dark" knocking the socks off most tunes of the day
User ReviewApril RI just watched it again, and does it bring back some memories!
