User ReviewKarthick CThis is widely regarded as Cynthia Rothrocks best American movie, from director Paul Maslak. I can also safely say that it is. Despite a ludicrous plot which has Cynthia developing psychic powers when he sister and nephew are brutally murdered, the film is fast paced, fun and filled with neatly choreographed action. Not to mention Rothrock in her sexiest role yet. The film is wildly inconsistent with a comical action scene when Rothrock foils a store robbery, complete with sill sound effects as large men are made fools of. Also a very steamy martial arts display in a skimpy negligee from the Queen of flying fists. What helps though is a good cast helping Rothrock, who also gives her best performance, although that does not say a lot! Also starring is Kurt McKinney known primarily from No Retreat No Surrender. Then there is good support from Oscar winner Brad Dourif and Mako. The film has plenty of nice action and never gets boring while there is a good production value to this, especially compared to many other of Rothrock's movies. Standout scenes include the sexy Cynthia taking on several large men with some masking tape and defeating a warehouse full of bad guys. Cynthia is unbelievably sexy in this and the film overall stands out as one of her best achievements.
User ReviewKeenan SSworn To Justice is a decent, but heavily flawed martial arts and revenge film. This has also been my first taste of Cynthia Rothrock (The queen of B-movie martial arts films). The plot follows a woman who vows to get revenge against the gang who murdered her sister and nephew through a lot of ass kicking and use of her new found ESP powers. By day, she is a defense attorney and by night, she seeks revenge against those who have wronged her, while also pursuing a romantic interest. It's very hokey and over the top to say the least. While the film works decently as an action/revenge film, the film stumbles when it tries to add heavy drama into the mix, which sometimes causes the film to drag at certain points when it insists the viewer try to take it seriously. The drama is at best on the level of a soap opera, which left me annoyed whenever the film insisted that I try to take it seriously. The film also suffers from some jarring tonal shifts, such as when Rothrock's character stops a robbery at a store in a fight scene that resembles something that you'd see in a slapstick comedy (Complete with cartoony sound effects, too), and then it suddenly shifts to a scene when she's at home grieving the loss of her loved ones while sad music plays. Despite terrible drama and jarring tonal shifts, the film manages to save itself from being crap by having solid fight scenes, funny humor, fun and campy acting by a charming cast, as well as having much-needed staples of cheesy 90's action films in the form of cheap sex scenes and nudity (As well as cheesy saxophone music that accompanies such scenes!). It works fine for 90 minutes of stupid entertainment if you have nothing better to do.
User ReviewMichael YNot a bad B-movie (B-movie level acting) but not too much martial arts. If you are fan of Cynthia Rothrock's martial arts, see the films she made in HK ("Millionaires Express, Righting Wrongs, etc). This film does seem to focus on her body in other ways, although a full frontal shot will not be shown. Nonetheless, as in this movie or in real life, don't mess with her.
