Movie Reviews

7M Pictures - 5/10 by Kevin Carrhas the distinct feel of an action flick from the late 80s
User Review - 10/10 by Jon WThis was a great film! I saw an add for it on the 'Phantasm' dvd from Anchor Bay.(Same as the 'Kenny and Co.' preview) After seeing the add, and Don's other films I knew I wanted this one too. It was a great story, awesome movie, and would mention this to others who are into action packed flics.
User Review - 6/10 by Spookie MThe bad news is the violence is surprisingly restrained given the fact it's directed by Don (Phantasm) Coscarelli. The good news is...Lance Freakin Henriksen. All in all not bad for a cheesy 80's action/adventure film.
User Review - 6/10 by Brad GFrom the director of The Beastmaster, Bubba Ho-Tep, and the Phantasm franchise comes this 80s feel good Mother Nature survival story starring the wise woodsman Lance Henriksen and his group of city softies led by the Repunzelish Catherine Keener, a typically â??seriousâ?? Dermot Mulroney, and a typically unfunny Paul Provenza. It may cause for some serious eye rolls, but I enjoyed the cast and the eventual battle between Lanceâ??s tree huggers and Mark Rolstonâ??s (Drake from Aliens!) gun happy survivalists. VF.
User Review - 6/10 by Bill BNot too shabby as far as a mid-level survivalist flick goes, though the tone veers wildly from afterschool special type lessons about others feelings to actual deaths by gunshot, which makes for an uneven viewing experience to say the least. Worth a rental for some decent (if slightly predictable) performances.
User Review - 6/10 by Timothy SDon Coscarelli made a name for himself as one of the most unique horror film directors of the '70's and '80's, but with "Survival Quest", he tries to do something a little different. It's bland, which is not something that you can say about his "Phantasm" films, and it's also a more character driven film than we're used to from the filmmaker. It sounds weird to say, but Lance Henriksen plays the most normal person in the film, but in this case, it works. It's a likable performance and the center of the picture. Indie queen and future Oscar nominee Catherine Keener keeps her talents well-hidden in her feature film debut, but she is kind of goofy-looking. I enjoyed the film despite of myself because as B-movies go, this is one of the better ones I've seen in a while. It takes a while to get going, as the first hour is virtually conflict free. But the characters are enjoyable and the film is never boring, and that kept me watching. Along with Keener, a young Dylan McDermott makes for a unusually mysterious hero. His badass, James Dean wannabe performance is hilariously misguided. Despite the overly simplistic plot and mostly no-name cast, there is some real suspense here and I was surprisingly captivated by this little movie. I had a lot of fun. "Survival Quest" is a pretty ordinary movie, but it gets a lot of mileage out of this well-worn story. Don't write this one off too early because Coscarelli manages to make the most out of this routine picture.

User Review - 4/10 by Jordan MPretty lame wilderness survival film. I expected something more interesting from Don Coscarelli, who made the highly original "Phantasm" and "Bubba Ho-tep". At least it had Lance Henriksen and a young Catherine Keener.
User Review - 4/10 by Kevin DA fairly routine actioner. Devotees of the great Don Coscarelli will find it uninspired when viewed alongside the Phantasm movies, Bubba Ho-Tep, and even Kenny & Company. The plot is as follows: Two competing wilderness survival tours are flown out into the remote Rockies. One is led by Lance Henriksen, who is a lovey-dovey hippie who preaches the value of positivity and cooperation. The other group is a band of Young Republican nazis led by Rolston. Sooner or later, the nazis start to tear things up and get rowdy, and it's up to Henriksen and his ragtag team to stand up and lay the smack down on these bastards. The whole thing is kind of like a camp movie: Henriksen and company are your endearing slobs, and Rolston's commandos are your evil preppie snobs. A better cast than such a movie deserves elevates the proceedings.
User Review - 4/10 by Chris PFrom the director of Phantasm, a movie about going into the woods and being attacked by crazy people. I wish he had included the evil midgets from Phantasm.
