Leave your thoughts about Style Wars.
DVDTalk.comBill GibronYes, there were Style Wars back in the day. But they weren't just battling over graffiti design. The war was over which way the cultural landscape would swing.
Vue Weekly (Edmonton, Alberta)Stephan BoissonneaultWith a soundtrack of old-school hip-hop like Grandmaster Flash, the film is a fantastic origin story of a culture that still continues to exist to this day.
Mixed ReviewsMartin Scribbs...provides a glimpse into the artistic process (with its beautiful, criminal, and competitive aspects) and preserves a chunk of public art from a NYC that no longer exists.
User ReviewBen GBeutifuly shot, well ballanced, compelling and even sometimes thrilling docco. Defiantly one of my favorites.
User ReviewChristopher KGraffiti documentary, shining light on NYC's old school graffiti legends.
User ReviewMatthew AUnderstanding graffiti goes by watching Style Wars, there's no way around it.
User ReviewCaelin WWatch It....soooo good...if you like New York and birth of the Hip Hop culture
User ReviewJason LThe best film about graffiti of all time. A doc from PBS in the early 80s about graf which gives insight into how writers, their parents, the law, the transit system and even then mayor ed koch felt about the art/crime. One armed Case is my favourite, but there are also many awesome artists who also make for great interviews on top of their underappreciated art. If you want to know the history of graffiti pick up the 2 disc dvd, the music and fashion is kind of dated, but the art is timeless
User ReviewKimo QClassic document of the struggle between bright youth and clueless adults.
User ReviewAlex Lgreat graffiti documentary for the time....real captures the history of graffiti
