Entertainment WeeklyOwen GleibermanStriptease lets down its own performers right along with the audience. It’s a Christmas tree someone forgot to string with ornaments.
Reeling ReviewsLaura CliffordStriptease is two movies in one duking it out to neither's advantage.
Washington PostRita KempleyA sexless seriocomedy that would be a bust without the support of Burt Reynolds and Ving Rhames. The pair bring a much-needed lift to this tale of a mother at the mercy of the system. Without them, the movie is mostly a showcase for the star's personal trainer.
Philadelphia InquirerDesmond RyanMen will doubtless be lured to Striptease by Moore's beautifully sculpted body. But it's the heart she puts into Erin that gives this more erratic than erotic picture the centering presence it needs.
Baltimore SunChris KridlerDirector Andrew Bergman (Honeymoon in Vegas) has a deft comic sensibility, but less skin and more speed would have served him better.
The Seattle TimesJeff ShannonAlthough it drags for 105 lugubrious minutes, Striptease is not the embarrassment that Showgirls was - not by a long shot.
Reeling ReviewsRobin CliffordThank goodness for the supporting actors. They save me from total misery.
Miami HeraldRene RodriguezWhile Showgirls was funny the whole way through, Striptease has long, dreary stretches, where you're forced to watch Demi Moore undressing.
rec.arts.movies.reviewsScott RenshawThe result is a film which is moving in several different directions at once: the source material is trying to make it dark, Bergman is trying to make it silly, and Moore is trying to make it serious.
Los Angeles TimesKenneth TuranThe movie's fatal flaw is to treat her [Moore] like a plucky Sally Field heroine. That throws a wet blanket over the rest of the party.
