Movie Reviews

Laramie Movie Scope - 8/10 by Robert RotenCapaldi has found a neat way to stand the mafia movie genre on its head at times.
Seattle Post-Intelligencer - 8/10 by William ArnoldLoaded down with gritty Glasgow atmosphere and authenticity, and works so well as an ensemble piece
Apollo Guide - 6/10 by Scott WeinbergStrictly Sinatra is certainly better than mediocre and it's often quite entertaining, but it's not precisely cause for a stampede to the video store.
Montreal Film Journal - 6/10 by Kevin N. LaforestKind of like 'Swingers' but with colorful Scottish accents!
Filmcritic.com - 4/10 by Christopher NullBy the time Sinatra turns into GoodFellas, you'll have likely given up on the whole affair.

User Review - 8/10 by Ray JWhether this is all true (depicted in the movie) about Sinatra or not, it was still an interesting film and kind of hard to believe.
User Review - 8/10 by Sarah FBest in Show: Ian Hart One for the future: Kelly MacDonald Stand-out scene: 'My Way' Brainer or no-brainer: Brainer Stands up to one viewing or repeated?: Repeated DVD commentary any good?: n/a TV Strictly Sinatra (re-named Cocozza's Way in the States probably due to legal reasons) is a small Scottish movie with a big heart. Liverpudlian actor Ian Hart (a very nice man; he tutored a friend of mine in drama a few years back) demonstrates his depth of range in this fish-out-of-water tale of an out of date/touch crooner who gets embroiled with some Scots gangsters. Bubble-permed and hopelessly nerdy, Toni Cocozzo dreams of big-time stardom but he doesn't have the act to match his ambition. When he catches the eye of a Scotia Nostra Don, Toni finds himself caught up in a shady netherworld, becoming a gopher for the godfather's right-hand man Chisholm (Brian Cox). Directed by the star of the similarly-themed Local Hero, Peter Capaldi, who brings a Forsythian dramatic depth to the proceedings. As Cocozza's girlfriend, Kelly MacDonald has a pivotal role and provides sterling support to Ian Hart's bravado turn. Maybe the name change in the States was due to getting clearance from the Sinatra family or to make an allusion to Carlito's Way (Hart's hairpiece is as bad as Sean Penn's in that movie) or maybe the distributors were worried that people would think it was a documentary about Ol' Blue Eyes (recalling the hilarious George III debacle). All in all a watchable treat.
User Review - 6/10 by Nicolas AThere's something about the movie that makes me thing about all the other ordinary movies, this movie has nothing special, nothing new, just one of those movies you see and hear about all day long. For a movie about one of my favorite artists they could at least played a song with his voice our even hang a poster at some fucking wall somewhere, afterall the title of the movie is 'Strictly Sinatra' but they dont go further then mentioning his name a few times and a guy with a soulless voice covering his songs.
User Review - 6/10 by Jarryd RWell I didn't seem to dislike it nearly as much as many others here, though I didn't care for it - I didn't hate it either. William H. Macey saves this movie from a bad to a fair - as his performance was very fine-tuned and intriguing and a pleasure to watch in it's own. Also thought the same for the small part played by the young man playing Frankie Jr. I think if you are a WHM fan who wants to see him (once again) demonstrate the fine craft of acting - it's still worth the watch. They also captured the time period in props and wardrobe without going over the top or being too kitchy which happens often. - If there was a fair rating - I'd rate fair - but it goes from bad - to good so I'll say 'good' only because Mr. Macey's own performance was just too good to rate the movie as haven't liked it.
