Movie Reviews

Los Angeles Times - 9/10 by Michael RechtshaffenDirector Seet’s gorgeously filmed production proves to resonate as much today as it did 40-plus years ago.
The Hollywood Reporter - 8/10 by Frank ScheckEven those unfamiliar with the tale will find it charming and moving, and, as is so often the case with Australian films, the scenery can't be beat.
Variety - 7/10 by Richard KuipersThis version of Storm Boy, directed by excellent Aussie small-screen helmer Shawn Seet, has the emotional heft and visual splendor to win the hearts of domestic and international family audiences.
Arizona Republic - 7/10 by Bill GoodykoontzDirector Shawn Seet’s film is surprisingly sweet and moving.
Movie Nation - 6/10 by Roger MooreIt’s not a thrill-a-minute piece of children’s entertainment, but winning performances by young Finn Little, by Oscar winner Geoffrey Rush as the adult “boy,” and by Trevor Jamieson and Morgana Davies, lift it.
The New York Times - 5/10 by Teo BugbeeStorm Boy tries to present itself as a modern fable, where the lessons learned relate directly to present-day concerns over the environment, industrialization and the marginalization of indigenous cultures. But these themes come across as didactic rather than moving.
The Guardian - 4/10 by Luke BuckmasterIn the new film, by literally creating a bust of the bird – as if a clump of stone or plaster could compare with the natural majesty of wings and feathers – the meaning has been accidentally inverted: a story about how something can never die becomes about how it will never live again.
User Review - 10/10 by meydianarizki21.A film for everyone A visually stunning Australian film that has worldwide appeal for people of ALL ages. The themes about family, friendship, love, loss and loneliness are universal and rounded out with a message of hope for a better future. This is a throughly enjoyable and emotional "retelling" of Colin Thiele's book of the same name which has been in print for over 55 years. This is not a remake - this is a retelling and should not be compared to the 1976 version. This film stands on its on merit, it is beautifully shot and superbly acted. It's a remarkable film that will stay with you forever.

User Review - 8/10 by DawdlingPoetThis is a nice, interesting family friendly drama film set in Australia. I liked the cinematography and the musical score, plus the little boy's acting was very good.
