Film ThreatAlan NgIt’s tough to watch, and you will fight the urge to walk out but stick with it.
VarietyOwen GleibermanThis is a genre thriller. That said, it’s an urgent and honest one, and Caviezel gives his most committed performance since “The Passion of the Christ.”
RogerEbert.comNick AllenTake away the noise surrounding it, and Sound of Freedom has distinct cinematic ambitions: a non-graphic horror film with what could be called an art-house sensibility for muted rage and precise, striking shadows derived from an already bleak world. If “Sound of Freedom” were less concerned with being something "important," it could be more than a mood, it could be a movie.
Movie NationRoger MooreA compelling hot-button subject and engrossing “true story” runs up against a ponderous script, pedestrian direction and the limited range of star Jim Caviezel in Sound of Freedom, a lumbering thriller about international child sex trafficking that flatlines when it’s meant to be moving, uplifting and inspiring.
The New York TimesGlenn KennyIt’s hard to tell if this movie avoids any conventionally exciting set pieces out of scrupulousness or just lack of inspiration. Oddly, the picture’s muted tone ultimately undercuts its solemn sense of mission.
Rolling StoneMiles KleeApart from its relentless messaging, the movie is hobbled by a near-total absence of procedural logic.
User ReviewdaLiraOne of the best action movies of this year so far, if not the best, with a great story alongside.
User ReviewCaleb1534I'll begin by saying that I am a conservative Christian who believes the Bible is the Word of God. So, that is the perspective I have in this review. Onward... Wow. Such an incredibly well-made and impactful movie. Very hard to watch, butI'll begin by saying that I am a conservative Christian who believes the Bible is the Word of God. So, that is the perspective I have in this review. Onward... Wow. Such an incredibly well-made and impactful movie. Very hard to watch, but also very necessary, in my opinion. The acting, pacing, music, and cinematography — all excellent. There was some language and immodesty. However, those things never felt out of place. What do I mean by that? I mean that this movie didn't draw attention to those things, they weren't the focus (aside from a brief shot of a photo of a female model in a bikini). By and large, the language and immodesty made sense in context. The bad guys used language, and the bad woman dressed immodestly. There were a few times the good guys used language. But when they did, it generally seemed appropriate for how they used it. Kudos to Alejandro Monteverde for this stunning accomplishment. And Jim Caviezel showed his mettle in this film. He is an amazingly talented actor, one that is underappreciated (speaking from personal experience). I will end by parroting what Jim Caviezel said in more than one interview: Watch this movie. If you are willing, able, and mature enough, see this movie. Then tell your friends to watch it.
User ReviewJsanchez5031This movie was very hard to watch, but with that being said, tough it out. The message it spreads is extremely powerful. I definitely recommend watching it, despite the other reviews. Make your own decision and see it for yourself. Political agenda set aside this should have unlimited publicity.
User ReviewMadDadHollywood´s double moral is so visible when you compare Rolling Stones Magazin review on "Cuties" hailing it with the same topic a few years earlier and "Sound of Freedom" now, a powerful and tense thriller which manages to tackle sensitive subject matter without getting exploitive. There are some pacing issues and the film would have been better 20 minutes shorter, but it's also one of the most impactful films of the year.
