User Review - 10/10 by Stewart FIf you enjoy your cinema cheap and awesome, this is a must see treat for you. The story is about a failed horror director whose last film Terroid was a huge flop and needing inspiration for is next project Terroid 2 he goes to strip joint and meets a very attractive woman then as hey drive he crashes his car and she dies then he ends up using her remains in the film as gore. This film was highly original and the central performance by David Hess was absolutely incredible, the script and direction is amazing and although made on a low budget it knows it and takes the piss out of it which was fun as too many films on a low budget try to hide the fact and look awful and have terrible acting. The effects in the film are very good and a couple of scenes made me squirm in my seat. While not a horror masterpiece like exorcist, nightmare on elm street this film has enough laughs and blood to keep fans of the genre happy and if not a fan its a great film t kick back to as no thinking is required. A Must buy!!
User Review - 10/10 by Lloyd DI dont think the people who hated this understood the joke behind the film. It was a respectuful tribute to Gorden Lewis the Gofather of gore. A director of bad films goes nutz after a car accident and runs amuck killing everyone he works with one by one. The acting is over the top but it was intended that way and the direction has the wink win nod to horror fans. Awesome kills and plenty of gore. The scene where Ozzy throws up a harpoon and catches it with his chest and stands there admiring the thing sticking out of his chest before he acts out pain makes the point of they were not takig the film seriously and its clearly tounge in cheek. I loved it.
User Review - 10/10 by Erik SAnother great film from the team that brought the world Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter and Harry Knuckles. Definite must see for the fans of the gore films of Herschell Gordon Lewis, who is in the film as opening narrator.
User Review - 8/10 by Gavin MThis movie is hilarious, assuming youâ??re completely desensitized to violence, and you want to see a midnight movie that knows the genre, how depraved and stupid it is, and makes fun of itself. Itâ??s made by the same people who made Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter, so if you liked that, youâ??ll probably like this. There are new musical numbers in this one, but the brutal gore makes up for that.
User Review - 8/10 by Ian BI missed this at Frightfest last year so I was really excited when Lovefilm kindly sent it me. Lol. A homage to splatter guru Herschell Gordon Lewis, this is a brilliantly satirical look at the uber bloodsoaked horror flicks of the early 70's. if you like old skool horror, and have a sense of humour, then you should watch this!
User Review - 8/10 by Jason DAt first glance, this may seem like regular direct-to-DVD crap, but in all actuality, Smash Cut winds up being an incredible surprise. Completely immersed in a presentation that pays homage to the golden era of exploitation and grindhouse films, Smash Cut is the story of famed director Able Whitman, played with absolute gusto by exploitation icon David Hess (The Last House on the Left, Hitch Hike, etc) whose latest film has bombed horribly. Feeling re-invigorated by his muse stripper girlfriend, Whitman sees hope, which comes crashing down when he gets in a car wreck and accidentally kills the girlfriend, whose body he continues to use as a muse, as well as a prop on his latest film. The only problem is that, now, Whitman has the killing bug and begins viciously murdering everyone at the studio who stands in the way of creating his ultimate art horror film. Iconic pornstar Sasha Grey (who, gasp, is actually a good actress) comes in as the dead girlfriend's sister/reporter who infiltrates Whitman's new film as the lead actress in order to uncover the truths. Some other iconic faces show up in the form of the great Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes) as the CEO of the studio, and Herschel Gordon Lewis (the Godfather of gore films, whose life loosely inspired this film) as Grey's boss. Director Lee Demarbre and writer Ian Discoll, who frequently collaborate on films, have delivered one of their best yet (and this is coming from the same guy who LOVES their Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter film). The great mix of gore, comedy, and homages to exploitation films works pretty smoothly throughout this unexpected surprise of a film. A real pleaser for ANY true horror fan whose had a consistent bad taste in their mouth from the onslaught of bad horror films (both mainstream and independent) coming out lately. Terrific.
User Review - 8/10 by Paul CTrashy fun tongue-in-cheek homage to the early splatter films of Hershel Gordon Lewis. They really get the feel of those films down. HGL himself even has a nice cameo. Plus, you get to see Michael Berryman in a goofy curly wig. Fun for fans of the genre.
User Review - 6/10 by Stef BI had hoped for high things from this homage to the works of Herschell Gordon Lewis. Sadly it didn?t quite live up to expectations. Don?t get me wrong I understood going in that this would be a low budget romp. I was just expecting a little more comedy. The plot revolves around a horror director whose starts killing people and using their body parts as props in his new flick. Amusing to start with but after a certain point, the movie seems to get on a treadmill and I found myself getting a little bored. David Hess gives us the psycho-killer experience as only he can. Porn scarlet Sasha Grey can clearly act. But sadly she would probably have had a more challenging role in Face Invaders 4 than she does in this. There are some nice cameos from Michael Berryman, Ray Sager and Herschell Gordon Lewis himself.
User Review - 6/10 by Paul DThe late David Hess' madcap energy fuels this appropriately campy love letter to the Godfather of Gore.
User Review - 6/10 by Tim MFunny B horror-comedy. I was hoping to see more of Grey. Hess, Lewis and Berryman are great casts. It would have been nice to see a cameo from Bruce Campbell.
