Leave your thoughts about Shock Treatment.
StarburstChris JacksonWhile not as well known as Rocky, Shock Treatment features all the hallmarks of Richard O'Brien's madcap genius.
Chicago ReaderDave KehrAs a movie, this sort-of sequel to The Rocky Horror Picture Show ain't much—but then neither was the original, and we all know how much difference that made.
The A.V. ClubTasha RobinsonThe film looks great, with vivid colors and sharp, snappy staging, but its 92 minutes drag by interminably. Tim Curry in fishnets might have helped, but a coherent storyline would have been far better.
EmpireWilliam ThomasCowering in the shadow of the Picture Show, this sequel of sorts builds on none of the risks take by its predecessor.
Washington PostRichard HarringtonHarper (STARDUST MEMORIES; MY FAVORITE YEAR), a vastly underrated actress, clearly exhibits more talent than this film deserves, its only real standout. Rather than maintain the level of crude, campy fun in the original, SHOCK TREATMENT deteriorates into lame, humorless nonsense that bores rather than amuses.
User ReviewAnthony TThis follow up to the Rocky Horror Picture Show is very different in its style. While it flopped at the time, O'Brien's commentary on reality television and the cult of personality have become much more relevant in this day and age. It is filled with a wide variety of songs, from pop-like music, to more of the rock variety. The show's feature song, "Little Black Dress" is not nearly as entertaining as Frank's entrance in RHPS, but the characters of Cosmo and Nation are incredibly interesting....and the songs that flank this more than make up for this attempt at regaining the feel and momentum of RHPS. Fans of the series call this an equal rather than a sequel, and it is in some ways. In others, it is so vastly different than its predecessor that the two probably shouldn't be compared. This film features my favorite song in a movie, the end song "We're Gonna Do It" Those that know me, know that I enjoy films that have common themes. This one has the theme of continuing to move forward. Maintain your uniqueness even in the face of strong pressure to fit in to a particular style. As the narrator says at the end of the film......The Sun Never Sets on Those Who Ride Into It
User ReviewSteve WGreat songs, great movie. As a 'sequel' to Rocky Horror, it proves itself to be on par with its predecessor, and another audience participation classic. While Rocky tended to crawl along, Shock Treatment moves along lightning quick, ditching the RHPS motif of slower tunes and dark colors for bright shiny 80's sets and high-energy songs. Thankfully, this is out on DVD, so sample it when you can. Ignore the haters and form your own opinion.
User ReviewMarco RIts only super amazing once you stop comparing it to RH.
User ReviewTrevor HNo it isn't Rocky Horror part 2. So stop bleating about it. The songs are much better, it's a magnificent stab at the heart of cheap TV and it was way ahead of it's time when released. Give it a go.
User ReviewJack Peter GThis is one of the best films I have ever seen. People expected it to be like 'Rocky Horror' and if you are expecting it to be like that, then don't bother watching. This film has to be viewed as a separate piece and then it is only then that one can truly appreciate this film. The story line for this film is also very entreating. It is way ahead of its time in a way and it can be said to reflect modern society and our obsessiveness with TV. A great film, give it a watch.
