The Tang emperor is betrayed by one of his generals, who installs himself as emperor in the East Capital. The son of one of his slave workers escapes to the Shaolin Temple, learns kung fu, and sets out to kill the traitor, who killed his father. The monks have to help him, and in the process, they save the true emperor, who rewards them greatly. Based on a true story from Shaolin folklore, but highly fictionalized.... | User ReviewJoseph MJet Li is a little string bean looking about 18 years old or so. An ironic scene that pokes fun at the vegetarian nature of the monks ends with a girl's dog being eaten. Hilarious! Also some early scenes of the beginning of Jet Li's masterful martial arts in which his prowess is evident. |
| User ReviewMiaI remember watching this a few times when I was 5 or 6... Awesome times! It's an ancient made-in-china martial arts film about a love story set around the Shaolin Temple... since the main character ended up being a monk, the love story ended with a pretty poopy ending, but who cares about the love story when you get to see a teen-age Jet Li kick ass? p.s. Just read the Synopsis and they mentioned a revenge of some sort... it's funny that I didn't really remember the revenge part, only the love story part... but love story? in a martial arts flick? |
