Leave your thoughts about Sexy Baby.
Common Sense MediaBetsy BozdechProvocative docu questions media's impact on girls' image.
Chicago ReaderBen SachsThis raises more issues than it can possibly consider in depth, but the filmmakers' ambition is admirable, as is their refusal to draw simple conclusions about any of the subjects.
Village VoiceMarsha McCreadieThere might be something new to say about sex after all, and it's said in Sexy Baby, a snazzily edited documentary by Jill Bauer and Ronna Gradus.
Slant MagazineNick McCarthyWhat the documentary lacks in the way of sophisticated filmmaking it compensates for with an earnest insistence on open dialogue.
About.comJennifer MerinHopefully those who see the film will find it one that stimulates serious discussion about women and the pressures they face regarding sexuality, and that it doesn't wind up as yet another source of titillation for voyeuristic viewers.
The New York TimesJeannette CatsoulisThis scattershot investigation of the effects of Internet pornography on female behavior only ruffles the surface of a complex issue, one that demands a much larger sample than three white, educated women.
Los Angeles TimesSheri LindenThe result is a kind of "Three Ages of Woman, With Plastic Surgery," that veers between insight and hand-wringing.
The Hollywood ReporterFrank ScheckVivid if scattershot documentary examines today's sexualized culture by focusing on three subjects.
User ReviewBill BSexy Baby is one of the best documentaries depicting the time this generation is growing up in. And people thought the 60's were the sexual revolution...think again!
User ReviewChristine HAfter reading the polarized reviews for Sexy Baby, I would like to leave the filmmakers with this phrase, "If nobody hates it, then nobody loves it." So, love it or hate it, the film provokes important questions and leaves the audience in the hot seat of reflection for not only their own image and behaviors but how they see the world they might want to raise their children in. There is so much honesty in this film. The way it portrays the three women is in no way forced, scripted, or prescribed. It makes each character a hero (and you will empathize with each) while keeping the sticky topic of sexiness as a secondary descriptor. You see it not in how they define each person, but in the choices they make. This is the biggest triumph of this film. Despite taking sexy pictures on Facebook or being a porn star, you would have to stretch yourself to imagine these women as "whores". While this is a great lesson for a female audience, I imagine this was much more effective for a male audience, who sits on the disproportionate reciprocal end of our sexualized culture (I understand this is a blanket statement, but bare with me.) A great, thought provoking film that I would encourage anyone (and EVERYONE!) to watch.
