Movie Reviews

Antagony & Ecstasy - 10/10 by Tim BraytonSans soleil is more intuitive than rational, and that makes it a singular, overpowering experience.
Ozus' World Movie Reviews - 9/10 by Dennis SchwartzThere's little chance such a bizarre thinking man's film will have a wide appeal, but for those it reaches this is a one of a kind masterpiece.
San Francisco Examiner - 8/10 by Jeffrey M. AndersonSans Soleil makes up a tapestry of memories that questions the entire nature of memory, while celebrating that of cinema.
User Review - 10/10 by Jason LShould be required viewing for the human race.
User Review - 10/10 by Daniel CA kaleidoscopic trip through time and space, thought and memory. I love it.
User Review - 10/10 by Conor Meverything that cinema can be. possibly the best movie i have ever seen. smart, beautiful. the viewer can really tell that the filmmaker put his soul into this. i need to see more marker. this is so unbelievably eloquent and fascinating.
User Review - 10/10 by Ki Hyuk YFor 100 minutes, Sans Soleil is too dense to easily understand on a single viewing. But this film proves that, as Marker's surrogate says on Japanese TV, "Not Understanding adds to the pleasure".
User Review - 10/10 by Carla Rene MA meditative collage of images, more like narrated postcards poetically expressing Markers unique, social perspective. The result is a feeling of rummaging through - or perhaps just being exposed to, an alien's diary. Pages and pages documenting a being's first visit to Earth & the strangeness of our society. Full of meaning, though still presenting gentle charming moments, harsh yet almost childlike. A thought provoking one-of-a-kind.
User Review - 10/10 by X. TAlong with Murnau's Sunrise, this is something of a cinematic miracle.
User Review - 10/10 by Kyle MA beautiful essay on the importance of context and details in remembering and how memories affects our personal and shared histories that shape the present. Hugely impressive.
