User Review - 4/10 by Chris WThis film (originally started in 1969, but finished and released in 1980) is quite lousy. It's a prime example of amateur film making that should never have seen the light of day. The film has aged horribly, is incredibaly dated looking, and the story is totally cliched, unoriginal, and actually put me to sleep. The acting isn't much better. Even De Niro's small role (that's right, his role is a supporting role, despite receiving the major credits) is mediocre at best. I only know about this film because it cost $1 and came as a double feature with a low-budget Pesci film. Avoid it. That's the bottom line. It's really not worth your time.
User Review - 4/10 by Ryan Aok i seen this movie that starring with robert de niro and i really thought that robert de niro is the leading star and he did appear the whole rest of the film. robert de niro and his face exactly like from his starring in "king of comedy". man, i need to see de niro keeping rest of the movie. this movie didnt great along with de niro need more scene. so im confusing release the year.
User Review - 4/10 by Trent MNot much to recommend in this film unless you are a DeNiro fanatic. His scenes were from a much earlier film that was never completed and used mostly as flashbacks. This movie begins as some kind of low mystery film and then for about the last 30 minutes tries to be "noir" with the brother speaking like a hardboiled detective all of a sudden. This actually does improve the movie a bit, but why didn't they play the whole film like this? There is a strange scene where DeNiro's character enacts a shoot-out on a beach and mows himself down about 20 times in dreamy slow-motion. It could have been better handled, but if you want to check it out, by all means, do so.
User Review - 4/10 by Miguel CThis film is only of interest to see an early Robert De Niro performance. De Niro is good, and his talent stands out. This film drags on and on. It is cheaply made, badly edited and boring.
User Review - 2/10 by Kevin FHoly fuck, this was terrible. Apparently all the worthwhile scenes with De Niro were from a previous movie that was not completed, intstead it was mashed together with a half-assed murder mystery 10 years later. The actors (excluding De Niro, of course) are so awful that it's painful to watch, it took me 3 sittings to get through the entire movie. The film quality was also terrible, and looked like it had been converted from VHS straight to DVD.
User Review - 2/10 by Aj VExcept for being one of De Niro's first movies, there's not reason to have to see this. This movie is predictable and uneven and stupid, I hated it.
User Review - 2/10 by Lady DVery bad, but is a "B" classic.
User Review - 2/10 by Robin WThe ultimate Robert De Niro curiousity piece, as the young unknown De Niro appeared in a film called "Sam's Song" in 1969 that was never completed - only to have his footage mixed together (to his horror, I'm sure) with newly shot footage ten years later and released as "The Swap". De Niro's scenes are passable enough, but the newly shot footage is so amateurish, poorly paced and badly acted that his oddity is often a chore to sit through. Contains one of the all-time classic bad lines when the ex-convict hero exclaims: "It's been twelve years since I had a mayonnaisse-and-peanut-butter sandwich. Now that's what I call cruel and unsual punishment!".
