Combustible CelluloidJeffrey M. AndersonIt's not as obviously masterful as some of Ray's other films, it's at the very least an entertaining horse opera with Cagney close to his best.
User ReviewAlex BIt opens with three warnings against (contagious) too-eager gun-play (and finishes the same way) and one of the strangest ever train robberies, and features several (other) great Nicholas Ray touches (like a marriage proposal in jail), but its main theme is the typically 50's (but I think--and come to think of it, strangely--unusual for a western) one of juvenile delinquency.
User ReviewAdam DA very watchable moralistic western with James Cagney's presence being key to its success.
