| User ReviewJake GAfter Python disbanded in the early 70's, Cleese went off and did his own thing for a while. ROMANCE WITH A DOUBLE BASS is just one of the rather diverse results. Based on a Chekov short story, and with a run time of about forty minutes, ROMANCE manages to tell its story with physical humor and a minimum of dialogue. Cleese is a double bass player with a gig at a princesses wedding, and well, love happens. The romantic interest is Connie Booth, then Cleese's wife, and their pairing is an inspired choice. Recommended, provided you don't expect more than a film with quiet laughs yet a great storyline. |
| User ReviewJames H6.5/10. Very funny British short film with John Cleese in an early role. Very amusingly done, with very little dialogue, mostly visual gags, and very well done at that. Fun cast. |
