Full Plot Details

Robin of Loxley, a lord living in Nottingham, enjoys a good life with his lover, Marian, before he is drafted by the corrupt Sheriff of Nottingham to fight in the Third Crusade against the Saracens. After four years away from England, Robin becomes disillusioned with the Crusades when he fails to prevent his commander, Guy of Gisbourne, from executing prisoners, namely a teenage boy, despite the pleading of the boy's father, which prompts Gisbourne to send Robin back home. When he returns to Nottingham, Robin learns from his old friend Friar Tuck that the Sheriff had him officially declared dead two years prior in order to seize Robin's land and wealth to continue funding the war effort at the behest of the corrupt Cardinal, kicking the citizens from the city and into the coal mine town across the river. Investigating 'the Slags', Robin witnesses the commoners planning to rise against the government that oppresses and exploits them and learns that Marian is now involved with their aspiring leader, Will Tillman. Robin is prevented from making contact with her by the Arab whose son he tried to save. The man introduces himself as Yahya - which he says can be translated to "John" - and proposes that he and Robin work to end the war by stealing the money taken from the people to fund the church's war. Marian seeks Robin upon learning that he is alive, but he chooses not to tell her of his plans for her own protection..

Movie Reviews

ChrisStuckmann.com - 9/10 by Chris StuckmannPut it in the recycling bin. This version of Robin Hood is embarrassing.
JeremyJahns.com - 9/10 by Jeremy JahnsThe movie is undeniably silly, but it's kind of fun sometimes... Don't misunderstand me -- It sucks, but it goes for a stylish enough angle for you to almost look past the fact that it sucks.
Birth.Movies.Death. - 9/10 by Jacob KnightBathurst & Co. have created one of the better pure popcorn movies of the year, and that's a pretty impressive feat for a movie nobody really wanted in the first place.
Columbus Underground - 9/10 by Hope MaddenThe score feels cribbed, the action is video-game superficial and the costuming came directly from Forever 21.
Blu-ray.com - 9/10 by Brian OrndorfA slightly confounding, utterly empty take on the famous outlaw, leading with a dulled sense of big screen adventure, romance, and villainy.
EricDSnider.com - 8/10 by Eric D. SniderA dumbly anachronistic action-adventure that you will never believe was not directed by Guy Ritchie and written by 12-year-olds.
Times (UK) - 8/10 by Kevin MaherIt's all tongue-in-cheek nonsense, but executed with flair and verve by debut feature director Otto Bathurst.
Tribune News Service - 8/10 by Katie WalshWhile it plays fast and loose with loaded political iconography, this Robin Hood brings a whole new dimension to this age-old tale.
Eclipse Magazine - 8/10 by Michelle AlexandriaRobin Hood doesn't strive to be anything more than it is, a nice little popcorn movie that you don't have to take seriously and serves as a distraction to life's outside worries, on that level it largely succeeds.
Mad About Movies Podcast - 8/10 by Brian GillBrazenly, perhaps even purposefully stupid and inept in virtually every facet of the filmmaking process, the newest version of Robin Hood takes "unnecessary" to an entirely new level.
