User Review - 10/10 by Tony ROne of the finest HK actioners of the 80s and really shows that Yuen Biao didn't need Jackie or Sammo around to look good!
User Review - 10/10 by David PA classic martial arts gem! Directed by Yuen Kwai, Yuen Biao plays a lawer who after seeing a crimminal despite mudering an innocent family. He decides to take the law into his own hands and go after him. Meanwhile a cop from England(Cynthia Rothrock)is trying to stop him. The action is superb, with some incredible fights. Noteworty includes one between Rothrock and Biao in a small apartment, and another in an airplane hanger between Biao and Melvin Wong!
User Review - 10/10 by Rob NAWWWWWESOME fight scene between the legendary Cynthia Rothrock and Karen Sheperd--jawdroppingly amazing job from those 2 especially!
User Review - 10/10 by George CHaving first seen Righting Wrongs back in 1990 (released here in the UK as Above The Law) I was already a die hard fan of the amazing Yuen Biao and Cynthia Rothrock (along with the rest)! And my love for them was very quickly confirmed with the pure awesomeness of the incredible martial arts action epic! Directed by the equally talented Corey Yuen Kwai, Righting Wrongs has some of the greatest fight scenes on film, featuring Biao and Rothrock at the top of their game along with the fantastic Melvin Wong, Karen Shepard, Peter Cunningham and more. This film deserves a worthy place for any serious fan of Hong Kong (or action) in their DVD collection and never tires on repeated viewings!
User Review - 10/10 by Dean MOne of the bestest Cynthia Rothrock movies where it filmed in Hong Kong with co-star Yuen Biao. Cynthia's stand-out fight scene is a weapon's duel with another American martial arts mistress Karen Shepard - amazing!
User Review - 10/10 by Dave JFriday, January 13, 2012 (1986) Above The Law (In Chinese With English subtitles) ACTION Best Yuen Baio martial art vehicle since he was still in his prime, directed by his brother Corey Yuen Kwai about vigilante lawyer seeking retribution after friend was killed, which is nothing more than an excuse to showcase well choreographed and staged martial art fights between actual ex- kickboxer champion Cynthia Rothrock and Yuen, another ex-kickboxer champion Karen Shepard and Cynthia Rothrock, Yuen and ex-kickboxer champion Sean "The Sugarfoot" Cunningham. Topping it off with Yuen jumping out of a flying plane into the ocean, several feet down. Influenced action scenes to other US action vehicles such as "Cobra" and "Die Hard With A Vengeance""! Footnote: The original English title was supposed to be called "Above The Law" but was was changed to "Righting Wrongs" to avoid confusion of Steven Seagals 1986 own version also called "Above The Law". And an alternative ending was also available for English audiences. 4 out of 4
User Review - 8/10 by Chuck DGotta love the obvious gender swapping stunt doubles and visible wirework. Best soundtrack ever! Fun fight scenes and ending!
User Review - 8/10 by Michael KSome of the best fight scenes I've seen. The black hitman is one of the best things to happen ever.
User Review - 8/10 by Eric NIt's a run-of-the-mill 80s cop story....except...we have Yuen Biao in an awesome, nuanced starring role, and Cynthia Rothrock in her 2nd co-starring role in her 3 films thus far. Director Cory Yuen also has a large role. For the 80s, this story might as well be straight out of TV's "The Wire" (best crime series ever made in the past or the future). It could be the plot to a Daredevil comic, with the lead actor actually being Daredevil in the flesh! Pretty god damn sweet. The story is relatively intriguing philosophically, the humor is kept minimal (slapstick is nonexistent which is a huge treat here in the retarded 80's Hong Kong) This is a Jackie Chan picture but with Yuen Biao in his place, and there ain't nothing wrong with that -- he has got the balls and the acrobatics, but unlike Sammo and Jackie, he shies away from the bozo antics. Biao is bad-ass! He's pure class. And Cynthia Rothrock is a benefit to any film. This is a little-known gem -- as good as or better than a majority of Jackie Chan movies, therefore it's more than worth a watch. If the villain had been ... less one-dimensional ... this would've been a 4.5/5 and a legendary film. But it's a pretty kickass 80s actioner that shouldn't be missed.
User Review - 8/10 by explodingboy1989Really sweet action film with Yuen Biao and Cynthia Rothrock. Corey Yuen, the director, created one of the most high-impact adrenaline-filled masterpieces ever with this. This movie kicks serious behind and still holds up with 80% of the genre today. The action pieces must be seen to be believed.
