User ReviewKagura MOH My....it is absolutely awesomeness!!!!!!!!! -hugs Miki- Mine!!!!!! MINE! MINE! MINE! Great movie, great confusing story, amazing animation, and beautiful metaphors to life. If only I was Utena. ^___^
User ReviewChatvarin LI decided to like this in the end, even though it lacks the emotional engagement of the TV series. After all, the animation is stunning, with some of the most beautiful pictures, animated or not, I've seen on film. The metaphors are now less subtle and more extreme, which oddly enough make you understand them more (not least because you have to - in the series they were fairly easy to ignore while you follow the story). Having just read Blake, I now see the French Revolution inspiration much more clearly than when I watched the TV series all those years ago. A drawback of all these though is that, as said already, the characters aren't painted vividly enough for you to feel them and feel for them; they are fairly easy to ignore here while you just get on with what you could make of the plot from the movie's hugely abstract symbolism.
User ReviewEva KThe most beautiful movie on the face onf the earth!
User ReviewLauren CI am so madly in love with this series and movie. I have been since I was 12.
User ReviewTina PCar scene has to be killer, romance, and power play has never been better when touched by the femme class.
User ReviewJacob BMy favorite cinematographic anime adaption
User ReviewSeth CLesbians that turn into cars! A batshit insane finale to a batshit insane series, I can recommend almost nothing more than sitting down with the entire of Revolutionary Girl Utena as a prelude for having sex with your whole family.
User ReviewDiamond BThis was an amazing movie filled with beautiful symbolism and imagery. Itâ??s about two girls breaking free of their imprisoned gender based world with only the love they have for each other. They let go of everything past, and embrace new things untold, while both are being the vehicle for the other. ~Beautiful
User ReviewSarah Rı love the series but this is a bit different form it any way homofobic and lesbianfobic people stayaway :D:D:D utena is kickin some ass <3<3<3
User Reviewmary GThe Utena movie is based on the Adolescence of Utena manga - in many ways, it's a condensed version of the TV series - but it's also an alternate universe (there are some big differences with some of the characters - but telling would be a spoiler! ^_-). A lot of people think Utena is complicated; but it's not - it's just deep. You actually have to listen to what the characters are saying, what they're NOT saying - and also take note of the action and backgrounds (the Shadow theatre girls for example, give important clues if you're paying attention). It's a great film - and like the series, it's open minded - going for love, honour and beliefs transcending the barriers society have placed on roles played according to gender.
