Movie Reviews

Movie Chambers - 9/10 by Paul ChambersDisappointing sequel to the classic horror film, "The Fly."
Ozus' World Movie Reviews - 7/10 by Dennis SchwartzMakes for passable 'killing time' entertainment.
User Review - 8/10 by Antoinette PNot as good as the original..but still held its own. Some parts don't make any sense at all..but you gotta remember its just a movie so take those parts and just laugh. It is enjoyable!
User Review - 8/10 by Andrew HA decent sequel, though it doesn't top the first movie. It is however worthwhile. Firstly, I saw this back to back with the first, so the story seemed continuous. This film is set almost two decades later; the son of the scientist wants to continue the work his father left off, with a friend of his working allongside. The son however, is aware of his father's tradigy by the sight of flies. In a dramatic twist, the son is doublecrossed by his friend and thrown in the transporter that transforms him to his worst nightmare. The major change in this film is in black and white; probably due to budget constraints, but to me, it seems to set a new tone. While the first film felt like a mystery story, this feels like a revenge flick, and the sharp b/w effect enhances the story to make it that way. Overall, an alright sequel. Would recommend you watch after seeing the first.
User Review - 8/10 by Stuart KAfter the success of The Fly (1958), 20th Century Fox immediately ordered a sequel to go into production. Unlike the first film, this one was in black and white, and done cheaper. But, there's something more effective, and Vincent Price is his usual self, as he was in a lot of other films out around this time. It begins with Phillipe Delambre (Brett Halsey), the son of Andre Delambre, the man whose head was replaced with that of a housefly, wants to carry on his father's legacy and scientific research. However, Phillipe's uncle Francois (Price) is against all this, fearing more tragedy will occur, but Phillipe convinces Francois otherwise. Phillipe hires assistant Alan Hines (David Frankham), who turns out to be an industrial spy called Ronald Holmes, who is also working for a shady man in the Montreal underworld known as Max Barthold (Dan Seymour). However, while 'Alan' is stealing secrets, things go awry when 'Alan' kills a policeman, ends up getting him spliced with a rat, and then Phillipe discovers what's happened and then gets trapped in the teleportation pod, with a fly... Guess what happens next... It's a good film, and despite the fact this one was done cheaper, but it feels more intimate and too the point. It has good performances too, and Price is always good value to a film, and he was in a league of his own. A sequel followed in 1965, then the remake. :P
User Review - 8/10 by prkprk pIt has lots of great dramatic scenes. A great sci-fi horror film and a wonderful follow-up to the original.
User Review - 8/10 by Mike KA sequel that delivers! Shame it was shot in black and white when the first was in colour! I liked the fact the creature was infected with giantism and I liked the whole Cold War espionage of the villian. I thought the hamster scene was a bit risky, when the villian presses his foot on it to be rid of it. Otherwise a very good sequel to the original.
User Review - 6/10 by Stuart BInteresting that this sequel was made in black and white when the original was in colour. Anyway another one down in the fly collection marathon that I'm having today! You got to love the fight scenes in these old movies.
User Review - 6/10 by Brett BThe first film was in colour but this sequell was shot in Glorious Black+White and is a bit more serious in tone, its not as good nor not as fun as its predecessor but its entertaining enough the grab the viewer.
User Review - 6/10 by Dominic MNothing is ever hopeless Philippe Delambre has returned to his father's estate to determine what aspects of his life he can pick up and carry on. Philippe decides to begin executing the scientific aspects of his father's experiments for money. His uncle, Francois, tries to stop him from putting his own life in danger. Before everyone knows it, there is a new fly/human swap and revenge to be had for those responsible. Will innocent victims become victims of the family business? "You can't divide a business like a sack of apples." Edward Bernds, director of Joy Ride (1958), The Storm Rider, Valley of the Dragons, White Lightening, Gasoline Alley, and Blondie's Heroes, delivers The Return of the Fly. The storyline falls in line well with the previous picture and is worth following. Vincent Price is not utilized as well as the previous film and the overall plot is just average. The cast delivers okay performances and includes Price, Brett Hasley, John Sutton, and David Frankham. "Just a moment my fine, fat, friend." The Return of the Fly aired during a Vincent Price marathon this past Halloween. I had thoroughly enjoyed the original and looked forward to viewing this picture. Overall, I found this movie entertaining and a worthwhile sequel. It is nothing special overall and an above average addition to the old school horror genre. "He destroyed the machine because it destroyed him." Grade: C+
