User ReviewRoss Mway better than i thought it to be. ... but I think it need's special kind of brains to have talent to value this kind of b-scifi/action with Dolph. but I did like it.
User ReviewJason TIt was a ok Action movie, Had some good scenes
User ReviewVapaaneuvos Rtoo bad.. dolph lundgren is too old for this :(
User ReviewJason AWow. I don't know, man. Dolph is usually fun, and he can carry a movie just by being Dolph, but even Dolph didn't seem like he was having too much fun here. 'Retrograde' has finally been released in the States after 5 years of being available in Europe. I can very much see why. This movie looks cheap. And I mean PM Entertainment cheap (that's saying a lot, because PM movies usually make Dolph's movies look like they have the production values of Jurassic Park in comparison); the story is tired (something about a mutant virus that has decimated the future, and Dolph is some dude from the future sent back in time to stop it, carnage ensues, etc...), and again, Dolph is just not "there." I don't think he felt the story, and I don't feel this either. Sorry, big guy. Gary Daniels, a great martial artist, is completely wasted here in a straight acting role as one of the explorers. I felt akin to how I felt watching the Crow: City of Angels, when the filmmakers had two great actors (the Yellow Ranger Trini and Iggy Pop) and DID NOTHING with them. That's Retrograde. Dolph doesn't do a whole lot here, and the rest of the movie is taken up by supporting characters and antagonists that the viewer could care less about. I'm glad I got this free @ Redbox, or I'd be giving it one star. As it's Dolph, it still gets two for the awesome jumpsuit he wears. But really, stay far away from this one and rent 'Missionary Man' instead.
User Reviewwretch aA cool concept but badly executed dolph was awesome in this! There are a few bad actors the captain and his steven segal look alike sidekick are a few. The thing I didnt like was that it has 2 different acts going at once and its hard to tell what the hell is going on EVEN THOUGH you already know whats going to happen... confused see it and you'll understand. its an alright watch
User ReviewVan RCombine "The Terminator" with its travel back in time premise to save the future and "Die Hard" about one many against many gunmen, and you have the basics for Christopher Kulikowski's unconvincing but tolerable sci-fi saga "Retrograde" with Dolph Lundgren battling to save Earth from a global biological disaster with some maniac zombies thrown into the mix. There is nothing wrong with the plot, but Kulikowski has to work on such a threadbare budget that the film fails to grab you where it counts. The story opens in deep space as a planet incinerates itself and vanishes in a incandescent explosion that hurls chunks of it across the universe. Some of those meteors penetrate the atmosphere and crash at the bottom of the Earth. John Foster (Dolph Lundgren) and a space ship full of heavily armed and genetically enhanced soldiers, including Dalton (a balded Joe Montana) are dispatched from the year 2204 and are sent back 200 years to Antarctic where a ship, the Nathaniel Palmer--is trapped in the ice. The poor humans see a meteor land in the frozen wastelands and tromp out unwisely to collect samples, little realizing the tragic mistake that they are making. Talking about tragic mistakes, Renee (Silvia De Santis of "Artemisia") leaves her toddler to take off on this historic voyage. Later, as she lies dying in the snow, with their ship sinking, she knows that she made a mistake. Of course, heroic Dolph saves the day, not once but twice! Gary Daniels co-stars but is wasted. The close-quarters combat fights register as lackluster. Presumably, they didn't have a stunt coordinator or they wanted to make double sure than nobody got hurt. Nevertheless, the thesping is quite good and the crew of the ship look like they actually know each other. Overall, "Retrograde" is an imaginative but shoddy movie because the budget doesn't make its science fiction believable. The settings are okay, but the special effects are less than special.
User ReviewLilo CI just love seeing Lundgren on Screen, but honestly this Movie WAS pure waste of his Talent. I mean the Plot is lame. Special Effects are lame. Mostly everything is lame in this Movie. Eccept those looks of Lundgren. What schocked me was the last Fight Scene. Holly Crap I was like wtf??? The Fight Scene looked like a rehersel or something. Alert for: All Lundgren fans. There is not much of Lundgren to be seen in this Movie.
User Reviewleane ePretty blah DTV trash but if you are stuck at work it's a perfect white noise time killer.
User ReviewPavel RIt was painfull to watch it and the ending... made no sense, I feel so violated for having watched this :(
User ReviewPhil HThin plot: check. Bad acting: check. Plot holes you could fly a time traveling spaceship through for 5 months: check. This is a bad movie in all the most amusing ways.
