Juicy CerebellumAlex SandellThis would probably be a hit in 2003. Yes, it is that horrible.
Ozus' World Movie ReviewsDennis SchwartzModerately amusing social satire of mistaken identity, that has little bite.
Independent on SundayQuentin CurtisMichael Austin's Princess Caraboo is a surprise delight: an English film that knows exactly what it's doing, and does it with style.
VarietyDaniel M. KimmelThe great costumes and sets are more substantial than the plot and characters.
User ReviewKay LAn imaginative plot line with a fine list of both likeable and dislikeable characters. Not only does it take guts, but it takes a character like none to do what Princess Caraboo, or more like Mary Baker, did.
User ReviewGinger DA charming film about a mysterious princess that enchants everyone.
User ReviewGeorge OThis is just a wonderful flight of imagination and fun. Kevin Kline, Phoebe Cates, John Lithgow, Wendy Hughes all at their best. Amazing
User ReviewRobert KThis is one of my favorite movies. Never a major box office hit, I discovered this film quite by accident in a rare, late night television viewing. Outside of Cate's celebrated bikini scene in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, I was never a fan until catching her in this little gem. From a pure acting standpoint, non-verbal acting is the most difficult, and she fulfilled this difficult proposition with creative aplomb and surprising grace. She was delicious in the role, absolutely captivating. And what could be better than being supported by a truly stellar cast, consisting of the finest American and British actors in existence? The story (based on a true event) was ripe for the telling, the script, the cast, the marvelous locations and production values-- all first-rate. This movie is what I call a "sleeper." A magical film that one often finds by accident, then asks, "Why didn't this film ever receive the attention and success it so richly deserved?" I LOVED IT.
User ReviewMicah WI love this movie; it is one of my favorites. At the beginning it seems that it would be dull but it is a beautiful story of a girl who is trying to get revenge, and better her life
User ReviewNannette CWhat a great story...don't think I have ever seen one like it. Phoebe Cates is no believable..I must say this has got to be one of my favs..for the mere fact that it is unique. I love the exotic costuming and scenery. That ball seen is awesome too.
