Leave your thoughts about Portals.
RogerEbert.comGlenn KennyPortals is something of a bait-and-switch. While the concept suggests mind-bending alternate-reality stuff, the not terribly cerebral reality of the movie offers more in the line of eyeball-gouging, blood-spurting, face-melting shock horror.
Austin ChronicleRichard WhittakerPortals feels like a first pass at a bigger idea, and a framing mechanism that takes a wild series of closing turns sets up a much bigger – and darkly interesting – universe. In that way, Portals promises more in future than it delivers here.
Movie NationRoger MooreHopkins makes an interesting, confused and increasingly dubious victim/hero/survivor. But the whole doesn’t answer any questions, not that it asks any interesting ones in the first place.
Film ThreatAlex SavelievDespite the involvement of some skilled filmmakers, Portals is a cinematic black hole – vacuous and barely perceptible in the vastness of space lit with far brighter stars.
The Hollywood ReporterFrank ScheckThanks to the efforts of the talented filmmakers and the committed performances by the all-in cast, there are some undeniably spooky moments. But you have to sit through an awful lot of tedium to get to them.
The New York TimesBen KenigsbergIt is difficult to believe that an actual first encounter with interdimensional beings would be such a complete waste of time.
User ReviewDubeauPortal should be name switch doors. The story is fragmented in many parts and it's just not clear on anything other then intentions. It was made by different filmmakers, I get it. There is no Portal leading to another dimension. From the start you lie to the viewer. It's just manipulation on the current reality and especially boring. The special FX are limited to gore and 3-4 effects for the Portals. Nothing more. The actors are average, some better then other. I give it 33%. Mainly because I like one or two actors, the rest was just disjointed bits put together in a very short 1,5 hours. Waste of time.
