User Review - 10/10 by Louise NTruly beautiful stop-motion version of the iconic tale of Peter & the Wolf :)
User Review - 10/10 by Patrick CWhat Templeton is able to convey through her puppets always amazes me. She has this impeccable sense of timing, frequently utilizing pauses that make each characters' mood radiate through the screen. I got a chance to see her speak at my school, and it's funny, she had surprisingly little to say about her process or... really much of anything. Weird.

User Review - 10/10 by Natalie NExcellent. I was fortunate enough to see this on the big screen. The animation was flawless. The music, of course, was great. And the storyline is refreshingly updated and unique. This is a simple telling of the classic tale. I highly recommend it.
User Review - 10/10 by Chris LA beautiful stop-motion fable of the story of Peter and the Wolf. PETER AND THE WOLF, an Oscar-winning short directed by Suzie Templeton, is a warm, stirring, exciting, and thrilling telling of the classic story in conjunction with Prokofiev's wonderful score. Simply put, the 45 minutes goes by fast, even when the short does not use words. Instead, gestures and body language is used extensively and to great effect, especially when the wolf comes along. Peter is a solemn and lonely boy bored of living in the woods with his grandfather. His father continually warns him of the wolf on the other side of the wall. Taking no heed, Peter's curiosity to see the wolf becomes all too real soon enough. Three animals: a duck, bird, and cat accompany him. In a thematically clever move, the animals (as in the other film versions) are as follows: flute represents the bird, oboe for the duck, and clarinet for the cat. The grandfather is represented by a bassoon, and Peter by strings. The wolf himself is represented by three horns. When they come along, the close encounters and chase sequences are thrilling and spell-binding in their clever invention. The film does show one unfortunate death, though not of a human. The story is small but stirring. Peter gets his due, in the end. Let's leave it at that. All in all, PETER AND THE WOLF is a beautiful stop-motion fable of the story of Peter and the Wolf, PETER AND THE WOLF, an Oscar-winning short directed by Suzie Templeton, is a warm, stirring, exciting, and thrilling telling of the classic story in conjunction with Prokofiev's wonderful score. User Review - 10/10 by Paula PThe first time I was exposed to Sergei Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf was with the 1946 Disney animated short. That short is still a classic one, but when it came to this dark tale Disney played it rather safe with its telling. Suzie Templeton's Oscar winning short is anything but safe. Taking this tale and placing it in a modern setting, Templeton was able to bring this tale to life in a new manner and add some new additions to this tale to reflect the changes in culture since this story was originally created. The movie is beautifully done in stop motion animation, which I am a huge fan of. The character designs are fantastic, and if it weren't for their enlarged eyes I would say that some of these characters looked almost real. Everything from the fur on animals to the grandfather's wrinkled skin was beautifully sculpted and spectacularly animated. Also, the film has that original King Kong quality where you can see the animator's finger imprints in the fur of animals where they moved the figure around to animate it. I don't know why I like that so much, but I thought it was worth mentioning. This version of the tale doesn't have any sort of dialogue to it. Gone is the narration that usually accompanies what is going on screen. And no one talks once in the film. This allows the images to tell the tale, which is a far more moving experience. Seeing how the film changes Peter and the wolf's battle, especially with the new twist at the end, makes a more effective and ultimately thought-provoking film that begs the question of who is the more ferocious monster in this tale. At only about 30 minutes in length I was amazed at how much Suzie Templeton's film was able to do. And long after the film was over I couldn't get it out of my head. It is a film that says so much without saying anything at all, and has proved that stop motion animation still has its place in the world of cinema.
User Review - 10/10 by SV GBeautiful short movie that lacks absolutely nothing.
User Review - 10/10 by Davey MA masterpiece, plain and simple. Gorgeous stop-motion animation and a beautiful rendition of and twist on the traditional story. The moments of quiet and stillness are perfect--this is Peter and the Wolf as spiritual cinema. This is the single best way to experience Prokofiev's music--the film employs the music and expands upon it. Extraordinarily beautiful and moving.
