The film is set in an aging pawnbroker's and at the core of the story beats a romance, yet love is rarely simple. Within a day, lives intersect and motives are examined. It is a multi-layered story that celebrates the rawness of humanity and challenges audiences to see the world from a different view. Characters from various cultural backgrounds are reflected in the performances of some of Australia's most dynamic actors. It is the Australia that we see when walking down the street, one rarely shown and often maligned in film. Pawno is a film that has garnered much hype amongst the film world in Australia. A brilliant soundtrack comprising Tom Waits, Astronomy Class, and Vance Joy, amongst others is married with an original score to take the viewer into the sanctuary of Les Underwood and his pawn store whilst catching the vulnerability of those on the street. Essentially, it is a left-of-centre Rom-Com, but don't be surprised to shed a tear. Pawno is a film with a heart of gold about characters that won't be forgotten.

Total FilmTim ColemanCaptivates with compassionate vignettes of humanity.
The AustralianDavid StrattonAn outstanding example of contemporary independent Australian cinema.
Time Out SydneyNick DentAs a portrait of contemporary Australia, it's an antidote to just about everything else out there.
Eye for FilmJennie KermodeAlthough it gets too sentimental in places, especially towards the end, this is an entertaining, bold little film with a clear voice of its own.
GuardianLuke BuckmasterThe cast do their best with the material but the scattered structure of the film does them no favours.
3AWJim SchembriA string of vignettes connects around a dozen characters in a dramatically pleasing mosaic, sometimes funny, sometimes sad, sometimes not as well-developed or rounded as it could have been.
The Age (Australia)Jake WilsonNot all the subplots arrive at satisfactory conclusions but, scene by scene, Pawno is an attractively modest, engaging work.
User ReviewKevin BGreat storylines, which is what I look for most in movies. A love story set in an inner suburb of Melbourne. Really could have been any city in the world. Fantastic Screen writing and Directing and of course an amazing set of Australian Actors. Kevin Bergin
User ReviewJacinta W"Not all the subplots arrive at satisfactory conclusions"! Thanks Jake Wilson, Age reviewer. Sometimes life's just like that. Not sure what you were hoping for. The fact that some of the story lines weren't resolved is integral to this film. Definitely worth a watch.
