PATRIOCRACY drills down and illustrates the forces that drive a wedge into the middle ground of America and the solutions required to move forward. Americans are polarized and angry. In the crossfire, the loudest voices drown out reason and facts with fear and anxiety. PATRIOCRACY explores the extreme polarization in America that cripples the country from tackling its most serious problems. Whether it's the national debt, healthcare reform, the war on terror or illegal immigration, Americans are shouting at each other instead of listening to each other. As America enters the 2012 election season, more money than ever will be spent to manipulate and sway voters by fear and emotion. PATRIOCRACY sits in the dead center of this monumental tug-of-war, educating viewers so they do not fall victim to manipulation as they cast their ballots.

Paste MagazineMaryann Koopman KellyThis is a doc one can chew on for days after, recommending to friends, asking people about and wanting to watch again.
WBAI RadioPrairie MillerThough even-handed about Washington DC dysfunction and corruption by both parties in our essentially financial one party system, the film ponders naive solutions that will likely leave the One Percent of this country's economic dictatorship snickering.
User ReviewMark FI thought it was a helpful reminder (here in 2016) of how much worse things have gotten. What were fairly common facts at the time it was made (2011 - and thus the lower critic reviews) are now largely forgotten.
User ReviewJohnna WIf you haven't seen this...you should!! It's a very good documentary :-P !
User ReviewDerek EA doc about the increasing political divides. Its chalk full of good ideas like non-partition redistricting for the house, open primaries, public financing for campaigns. It leaves out my favorite, which a popular vote for president. All of which force candidates to appeal to votes outside of their traditional political base.
User ReviewJennifer RFantastic! I really enjoyed this. It showcases the extremes of both parties and the media biases.
User ReviewDavid SThis is an honest documentary about the state of our national political gridlock. The film tries to examine why the public political debate has gotten so extreme, how it became so divisive, and what the effects have been on actually getting anything accomplished in Washington. Patriocracy is an old school documentary that adheres to the once-common ethic of unbiased reporting (in other words, this ain't no Michael Moore screed). The film tells the story through interviews with public leaders from both sides of the aisle. It mines familiar territory when it tells us how bad things are -- you just have to read the news to see that -- but it's really interesting when it examines how it got this way. One thing I have always wondered was whether it's always been this bad, but we just think it's worse because we didn't experience it first hand in earlier years. Talking with some 40-year political veterans of Washington, we find out that they think it's much worse than it used to be, and offer some theories as to why it got this way. The movie ends with people who are trying to make things better. I need to go watch this section again and take some notes to find out how to join these folks. If you're sick of politics, this will tell you why you're so sick and how it got that way. Unfortunately, there's not an easy cure.
User ReviewJill SIf you're not moved by the sheer honesty of 'Patriocracy,' you're either blissfully ignorant or clinging to a hyper-partisan agenda. Patriocracy opens with a question that needs answering: "The American political system was created to work through argument and compromise. When there's neither, how is the system supposed to work?" The next hour is spent illustrating how a combination of polarized media and hyper-partisan political party elites have slowly pushed the country into the gutters on the far right and far left. The middle is non-existent, despite the fact that most Americans fall somewhere in the political center. And Washington's moderates are leaving in droves because they cannot adhere to the ideological extremes demanded by the squeakiest wheels. This documentary also sheds much-needed light on money's role in further dividing us. When Congress spends more time fundraising than legislating, there's a structural breakdown. But when Congress fights to the end to protect the monied interests that fund their campaigns, there's corruption. That's where America is now. Broken, corrupt, and in dire need of political overhaul. Patriocracy doesn't attempt to answer how we fix the problems, but it does an excellent job at starting the conversation.
User ReviewSummer TPatriocracy reveals the truth behind why America is so divided today. The unbiased look at a country that seems to be on one extreme or another is not only riveting, but credible as well. The ethos built through neutral view points, powerful research, and reliable sources makes this a unique but impactful documentary. I found it very interesting and revealing that our society has so much to disagree upon because we are no longer all getting the same news. Depending on where we get our news and information about the world, our opinions will be shaped differently. With this knowledge, it is vital that we actively seek to learn all sides of an issue and not allow the loudest and most outspoken personalities control our opinions. As a college student on the verge of graduation, I find it very hopeful and empowering that this issue is not one that will continue to occur no matter what. We have the power to change the hateful rhetoric and transform it into good ideas and a successful society.
User ReviewAlexander PPatriocracy is a refreshing film that brings hope to the current extreme political polarization in America. It was pleasantly surprising to find that the film was extremely neutral in position, which caused a much more powerful affect in its message of meeting somewhere in the middle on the issues facing our society. Not only is it a well made film, but it draws your attention to a specific problem, provides examples and expert opinions from credible sources, and ends with a hopeful and empowering solution. Malone provides research and provoking visualizations of how our country has come to be pitted against each other according to party loyalties. We need to be coming together for solutions, and not dividing ourselves further. The loudest voices aren't the most correct and it is apparent in the film that it is vital for us to use our innovation and come together in this time of conflict. It is truly an inspirational film and I would reccomend it to anyone who is interested in bettering our society!
