CineVueJoseph WalshPassport to Pimlico is a light-hearted, well-written comedy starring fine comic actors and is as entertaining today as it was upon its release in 1949.
VarietyVariety StaffSustained, lightweight comedy scoring a continual succession of laughs.
Empire MagazineIan NathanAn entertaining effort from the Ealing studios that sadly hasn't proved as enduring as its peers.
Little White LiesDavid JenkinsA worthy restoration and a reminder of a (short) period when Britain were world leaders of thoughtful film comedy.
Monthly Film BulletinMFB CriticsEvery line, every "gag", is a little masterpiece of wit; each character, and indeed every individual member of the lengthy cast, provides a gem of comedy acting at its highest and best.
User ReviewRuth TAn Ealing Classic in which plucky Londoners defy post-war austerity.
User ReviewKim EA British humor classic, this Ealing comedy is incredibly funny and intelligent.
User ReviewGill AI love this because it is a piece of social history. It is about ordinary people and their preoccupations and desires at this point in time. It is so English that one almost needs subtitles these days, so accustomed have we become to homogenised American rubbish.
User ReviewGwen DMy favourite Ealing comedy. Margaret Rutherford at her best and shows clearly how Britain suffered economically just after WWII. Stanley Holloway is wonderful as the 'Prime Minister' of Burgundy and I adore Hermione Baddeley as the dress shop owner (a real character).
User ReviewJenny DIf whimsical post-war comedy is your thing then this is one of the best of them. A lovely performance from Margret Rutherford is an added bonus to this fine Ealing Comedy about a bunch of enterprising Londoners who suddenly find some burried treasure and evidence of the fact that their street in Pimlico was once gifted to the Duch of Burgundy. Watch this one, KIND HEARTS & CORONETS and the LAVENDER HILL MOB for a real fest of Ealing.
