Washington PostGary ArnoldPadre Padrone seems a botched opportunity at a great emotional experience, a potential but unrealized classic.
Urban CinefileAndrew L. UrbanThere are some strikingly beautiful images, all in context, as we touch themes of father-son conflict and coming of age drama
User ReviewMatt MA beautiful Italian movie about overcoming child abuse. It made me want to go to Sardinia.
User ReviewShahriar RWho do you think we are? Just think about it.
User ReviewMatthew Mvery disturbing movie with imagery. Pretty depressing but reminds you to be thankful for what you and what kind of people are around you.
User ReviewPavandeep SA film that like Rocco & his Brothers by Visconti, deals very much with southern Italy and its mired troubles. I found it fascinating that this is not a rags to riches type story but more of an observation of the trials of mankind to adjust. It is a movie for all time and one of timeless depth and it really made me wonder how sometimes even in the richest lands, mankind always has surprises waiting. A nice film to watch with El Norte in my opinion.
User ReviewRicardo GEstupenda! El retrato de la vida del campo y la relación entre padre e hijo se presentan con un arte extraordinario. La fotografÃa es estupenda y la historia es muy original.
User ReviewPrivate UThis autobiographical story of a man's fight for psychological freedom is intensely personal. The honesty is too much for many viewers, but I believe it is very well made and deserves credit for revealing the quiet personal struggles that go on in rural families.
User ReviewRich LTough but moving and ultimately unforgettable father-son drama set in the mountains of Italy.
User ReviewMartin RAstonishing portrayal of a shepherd boy growing up in very hidebound traditional manner, very much at odds with the 20th century, but he overcomes immense difficulties and a very late start to gain an education. The scenes are often brutal, but not without poetry; a counterpoint to La Dolce Vita.
