Blu-ray.com - 9/10 by Brian OrndorfDoesn't quite have the stamina to keep organizing brutality, slowly losing his ability to tell a clear story as the endeavor grows punch-drunk.
Consequence of Sound - 9/10 by Blake GobleOutlaw King is like watching prog versus metal. When it’s prog rock – folksy and wooden – it’s at its worst. Muted, draggy, earnest, with wee traces of carefully placed humor or commentary on a bygone era? It’s Moody Blues, and even a little Jethro Tull? Hardly worth putting on, unless you like your history slim and bone-dry. But at its best, it’s heavy metal, with swinging axes and church slayings and all sorts of grim goodies.
Film Threat - 9/10 by Tiffany TchobanianOutlaw King is a gripping, moving and grand film full of spellbinding performances. Pine effortlessly embodies Bruce's conviction, bravery, and compassion.
Splash Report - 9/10 by J. Don BirnamIt is one of those rare gruesome medieval battle movies that does not push your gaze away with excess, but rather captures it with normalcy and determination.
Eye for Film - 9/10 by Jennie KermodeThis is Scottish historical cinema come of age.
Butaca Ancha - 9/10 by Jorge (JJ) NegreteMackenzie stages some impressive battle sequences, but the notorious deficiencies make Mackenzie's film look more like a collection of material that did not reach a montage of the best of Game of Thrones. [Full Review in Spanish]
JoBlo's Movie Emporium - 9/10 by Chris BumbrayUnderserved audiences looking for legit spectacle designed for a grown-up audience will eat this up. It's superb.
Shadows on the Wall - 9/10 by Rich ClineThe drama is strong, and the battles are enjoyably messy and grisly, even if they're also rather choppy.
RogerEbert.com - 9/10 by Vikram MurthiA forgettable, middling exercise in violent dress-up.
Kermode & Mayo's Film Review - 9/10 by Mark KermodeI found it a bit of a slog... I watched it without ever being in it.
