Leave your thoughts about Opa!.
Arkansas Democrat-GazettePhilip Martin...a moderately enjoyable movie that plays like an extended commercial for a vacation on the Greek island of Patmos.
VarietyJoe LeydonMildly diverting but utterly predictable...
Dallas Morning NewsCary DarlingAn amiable if easily forgotten story of middle-age romance set amid the sun-splashed Greek Islands.
New York TimesNeil GenzlingerOpa!, a sweet, nontaxing movie set in the gorgeous Greek Isles, has a bit of a black hole at its center named Matthew Modine.
New York Daily NewsJoe NeumaierAs standard uptight-American-unbuttons-himself-abroad movies go, director Udayan Prasad's gentle, unexceptional romance is exactly what you'd expect.
Los Angeles TimesBetsy SharkeyEverything is flat except for the island's picturesque mountains, but you can look at those for only so long.
Deseret News (Salt Lake City)Jeff Vice[Modine] seems too tentative and blase to work as the film's lead. Especially since he's paired with the vibrant Scott. She definitely deserves a chance to work again, with someone as committed to film chemistry as she clearly was.
User ReviewKimberly BCute, feel-good movie with beautiful scenery. I really enjoyed this, and it was good to see Matthew Modine in something fun. I have always liked him, but his movies seem to be hit or miss.
User ReviewFrances HOnce again, I must disagree with the critics, because I found Opa! to be a charming little flick whose slower pace reflects the slower Mediterranean way of life and the great message of a man putting aside his own ambition to make the woman he loves happy. I liked the way Matthew Modine changes from being an awkward, uptight American to becoming a character who finally realizes that fame and his father's dream won't make him happy and content in life. I also really liked the lovely Greek island scenery, the radiant, spirited Agni Tsangaridou's performance, and the little town's colorful characters, especially the three old ladies in black, who always have pithy things to say about other people's business. Cute, enjoyable movie.
User ReviewGwen MBeautiful Greek scenery. that's about it.
