Marina grew up in Azerbaijan and was happy for quite some time. She became a teacher, married for love, gave birth to children, believed in what the Soviet authorities promised her. She never doubted her family had a prosperous future. But personal happiness cracked, and the country began to change for the worse. Marina's husband didn't find in their marriage what he wanted to and left for another woman. Teacher's pay began to be sorely lacking - the heroine had to forget about herself and devote all time to her children. Only for their sake does she live. Suddenly Marina meets Rustam - young, energetic, ready to live with her for the rest of his life and be a father to her children. But there is a problem: Marina is no longer young, but a handsome Azerbaijani is a man 'in the prime of life.' His parents find him a suitable fiancee. Rustam cannot go against his family and hesitates to admit to Marina that he will have to marry another woman.
