A young doctor must fight for his life when a crippling car accident leaves him at the mercy of a deranged nurse in this thriller from cinematographer-turned-director Joe C. Maxwell. It's hurricane season in Louisiana, and as the rain falls from the sky, Dr. Zack Peters and his female traveling companion are forced off the road in a blinding flash of lightning and metal. When Dr. Peters awakens to discover that he has been rescued from the wreckage by a strange nurse (Savannah Smith Boucher), his momentary relief soon turns to terror when he discovers that his sadistic savior and her brutal brother Raymond (David Parker) have no plans of letting him get out alive. With his traveling companion missing and the screams of the other "patients" filling the decrepit old house, Dr. Peters enlists the help of another of the nurse's desperate captives in finding his lost friend and escaping the bayou hell.
Leave your thoughts about Nursie.
User ReviewBudge BA doctor is kidnapped and held prisoner by the woman who runs a nursing home for elderly ladies. Comparisons with Kathy Bates in "Misery" are inevitable, and "Nursie" falls short by comparison. It's quite a well assembled little package, but there are too many clichés - consider the intellectually challenged muscle - and too many simplistic elements in the narrative. It's difficult to feel much sympathy for the doctor - he's too ineffectual, fails to make much of an effort to escape. And Nursie doesn't come close to the dynamic presence and horrifying rational Kathy Bates portrays so convincingly. The story is predictable, the characters obvious, the plot never quite convincing - there are always too many questions playing at the back of your mind, too many 'but surely ...', 'why didn't ...', and so on. What you get is a run of the mill drama with little which can be described as 'horror'. Well enough made, entertaining in places, but lukewarm.
User ReviewSabrina Athe main actress is plain scary --- loved her over-acting! otherwise nothing to write home abt.
User ReviewCarl NAn excellent theme, yet obviously an unfortunate similarity to Stephen King's Misery.
User ReviewJohanna JDesperately tries to get into the "so bad it's good" category, but comes up hopelessly short even of that mark. Savannah Smith Boucher as the eponymous Nursie does act C Thomas Howell off the screen through. But then so do the sets.
User Reviewp bExcept from The Hitcher, did C. Thomas Howell make one decent movie?
