Thrilled by the new culture that surrounds her, Hava hopes to take advantage of opportunities less available to women in Pakistan, including enrolling in college classes and working part-time at a coffee shop. Though she manages to achieve both goals, behind her father's back of course, it seems Night of Henna is not headed toward the realization of Hava's humble dreams: the opening scene flashes forward to reveal preparations for her very traditional, very prearranged wedding day. This bit of information also casts a shadow over Hava's tentative romance with Justin, a preppy musician who encourages her to explore her individuality. - After nine years spent learning "how to be a good Pakistani daughter" from the grandparents who raised her, Hava is excited to touch down at San Francisco International Airport and reunite with her mother, her cab-driving father, and, to a lesser extent, her surly, fully-Americanized younger brother. Movie Reviews

San Francisco Chronicle - 5/10 by G. Allen JohnsonIts story of intergenerational conflict between immigrant parents and increasingly Westernized children falls flat.
Village Voice - 4/10 by Laura SinagraHobbles a likable cast with dialogue flatter than Bollywood's cheesiest.
TV Guide Magazine - 4/10 by Maitland McDonaghWere it not for Kumar's luminous charisma, the film would be unwatchable.
The New York Times - 4/10 by Dana StevensBroadly acted, clumsily written and directed with crude sincerity, it is a well-meaning feminist morality play unlikely to be of much interest outside the community in which it takes place.
New York Post - 3/10 by V.A. MusettoSo bland that it fails to make an impression.
Newark Star-Ledger - 3/10 by Lisa RoseWriter-director Hassan Zee makes naive storytelling choices that diminish the drama of the piece and muddle the message of cultural tolerance.
