User Reviewjessica tThis is one of the oldest musicals, but one of the best. This musical tells the tale of Cole Porter, played by the sexy yet old-school Cary Grant. Grant portrays Porter well, and is aided by Alexis Smilth who plays the demure Linda Lee. The musical is a feast of wonderful songs, includin 'you're the top' and 'My heart belongs to Daddy'. One of my favourite musicals of all time, it is heart stoppingly romantic.
User ReviewAudrey-Kim HI haven't yet seen "De-Lovely," but I hear it is much more true to his life story than this film. However, I find this film fantastically colorful and enjoyable. Also, Estelle Sloan's tap number was immensely well-done.
User ReviewRenee -~~~CARY GRANT~~~ ~~THAT'S ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW!!~~~
User ReviewDeborah HGrant plays Cole Porter in this biography of his life. It features many of his hit songs too. If you're a fan of either Grant or Porter, you will enjoy this movie.
User ReviewSherry LNot my favorite. Some times I just ADORED IT (especially when Cary sang! Why wasnt he in more musicals? He's not as bad as Marlon Brando in Guys and Dolls... [sorry Brando!], he's not GOOD, but certainly not bad! He makes up for it in charm and charisma). De-Lovely was better... but all the singers in this one were a MUCH greater choice-- the new ones are so current sounding... eck. And De-Lovely was more faithful to his real life... but they couldnt say those type of things in this movie! Grant, as always, was great. I think this may be the earliest colour film with Cary in it... where his skin isn't so dark and he's not as old.
User ReviewBleak MWonderful, even if entirely fictitious, and then some.
User ReviewKayleigh GMuch more appealing than DeLovely. Maybe people say the story is not as accurate, but all the better for it. I like grant's cole porter much better than klein's cole porter. IF he was gay, let's ignore it. let's pretend he was a good guy and fell for alexis smith! Good flick, good fun, fantastic music!
User ReviewPaul MA very Hollywood-ized version of the life of Cole Porter starring Cary Grant as Porter and directed by Michael Curtiz (Casablanca). Great music and a very good performance by Grant (as usual).
User ReviewMary HThis is a great musical, and though I prefer musicals where the songs are not performances and rather integrated into the plot, there is a tap dancing number in here which is the best I've seen by a woman. Also, Cary Grant could quite possibly be at his hottest in this film. AND he sings.
User ReviewAlexa HThis was a really sweet movie and cary had mad piano skillz
